True dat!

I hope I didn't indicate that I was a Michael Jackson fan because I'm too damn old to have been that. However there was a time when almost every channel I got on TV had him doing a space walk and moves like I have never seen on a dance floor. This water bug who wears #10 for the Chiefs defies gravity with would be tacklers grabbing space just to try to touch him before he does a flip into the end zone.

I'm sure you can relate to this from coaching but I played corner and safety in high school and my coaches always told me to tackle my keeping my eyes on the ball carrier's belt buckle because he could move his shoulders and he could move his hips but he had to go where his belt buckle went and then hit him low. Well, that didn't work out too well either a few times when I was trying to tackle a water bug since his belt buckle seemed to be where his shoulders and hips were and I found myself tackling AIR.

Yes sir. I played CB and RB. You could concentrate all you wanted on that belt buckle but a good jump cut could leave you grasping for air. Still it is the right way to approach a tackle but it isn't 100% full proof. Teaching angles are the biggest things because most often we are not tackling head on.

One of the reasons I like watching Jimmy Moreland so much is he is not a big guy but he drives through the tackle which is one reason he is such a good tackler.

Good point on Jimmy Moreland.

My dad took me to a Maryland vs. Syracuse game in the mid 60s. Syracuse had a young RB that ran all over MD and scored three TDs. I was so impressed. I never forgot that day and never forgot Floyd Little. RIP!!
