NFL Network's Tom Pelissero believes the 2021 NFL salary cap will settle at around $185 million.

The NFL and NFLPA are still negotiating what the final number will be, but it is heading towards being higher than the $175 million minimum the two sides agreed to last summer. Teams may not learn what the official number will be until just hours or days before free agency begins. The league is still projecting how many fans will be able to attend 2021 games, something that's mostly out of the league's control. The hope is that vaccinations are ramped up over the next months and that stadiums can be at or near full capacity next fall. The difference between a $175 million and $185 million salary cap may sound small for a roster of over 50 players, but it will be the difference between some veterans being cut or staying on their current deal. The belief is that this will be a buyer's market as many players battle for fewer dollars available. Expect more short-term deals from veterans, who will look to land a more lucrative contract the following season when the salary cap inevitably explodes.

A couple of us have been saying a lower cap is coming for months now. We have no idea how it will affect teams in the NFL yet. I think it was dad but someone commented that there might be a lot of one year deals ... that is a good possibility.

To add to that, many of our FA's signed one year deals here and balled out. (Darby)

First, Tom Pelissero has no more knowledge of what the cap will be than I do.
Second, The league will not have all of the official final team and league revenues until tomorrow, Wednesday March 3, 2021.
Third, Once the league has those numbers they will crunch like hell and determine the cap.
Fourth, 2021 revenue or predictions of such have no bearing whatsoever on the 2021 salary cap, those will determine 2022 cap.

Unofficially, the 2021 salary cap has been estimated by cap experts to be approximately $180M. The league announced that they hoped that the cap floor would be $180 and are hoping that they can push it up as high as $182M or $183M. They can play around with the rules if the NFLPA agrees but they can't screw with the cap because that number is tied directly to the NFL Anti-Trust Exemption. If they screw with it at all, there are legal issues that will cost the league, owners and Union billions of dollars and they could lose the exemptionwhich would put everything in tax hell.

The best that teams can hope for is $183M. That would be a $15.6M reduction from 2020. The big problem are the contracts that were written assuming the cap would increase by no less than 7% annually. That's why teams like the Saints are going to be $96M over the cap. If 2021 is an exemplary year, they might be able to bump the cap 10% in 2022 and take it up to $201.3M Expect it to be 8% and the cap to be set at $195.8M.

Teams should play by what they know and have reasonable expectations on the future. Nobody knows how much or little Covid has truly affected the league, nor do they know what is going to happen with COVID.

as i have said again , disney has already signed their TV deals and cbs fox and NBC are fixing to pay double . so i dont think covid will be too much of an issue as far as money is concerned .

here in cleveland where i am work stadiums for baseball will start at 30% capacity
