I dont think anybody thinks the defense is a complete unit.

I think AP realized how bare the cupboard was and did his best to plug holes this past offseason:

Wagner, Luvu, Clelin Ferell, Fowler, chinn, Armstrong, trading for Lattimore, Newton, mikey s, sheldon Day, jaylon xxxxx, etc - thats a lot of free agents / draft picks.

I’m sure I’m forgetting some too.

Now he has some pieces: Luvu, Lattimore, Mikey, Wagner if he comes back, Quan Martin, armstrong.

I expect a bigger jump next year as this side of the team will most definitely be addressed this offseason.

If Whitt’s teams continue to struggle next year then maybe its worth considering a change, but probably not even then in my opinion.

Explain to me how Whitt jr stunk up the season so bad it cost us the championship game? Bro, we were in that game thanks to the defense.
I did not say it cost up the NFC Championship game. We had no chance with our run defense. Add to the TO's and zilch. He emphasized each week defensively the team would improve. It did not. Clearly the scheme also sucks and while there were slight improvements into each 2nd half, it was just wash, rinse, repeat each week. Do we need better players? Yes. Do we need improved coaching? Yes, Is anyone responsible for the dreadful run game defense? Not sure. Shame on me for holding coaching responsible. I guess my standards are higher than they should be.

What would you have run instead with the players we have? As the run defense kept getting worse or not improving every week all the way to the championship, what would you have preferred? Honest question, no hate.

Absolutely. 55 points is 55 points, the most ever given up in an NFCC Game. Even if the Washington offense didn't commit turnovers the defense could not stop the Eagles all afternoon. The turnovers hurt but the defense failed to step up when put in a bad spot. They gave up 459 yards and could not limit scoring drives to field goals.

You want one of the worst teams in the NFL a year ago with an entirely new staff and couple of key FA signings, to overcome 3 fumbles and beat the best team in the NFC.
So although the offense screwed the defense 3 times, you have said the defense is mostly to blame for that loss.
ok got it.

Look we were the last ranked defense in 2023. We finished 16 this year. To say the defense didn’t improve just flies in the facts . That being said the defense isn’t anywhere near championship level from a talent perspective. So I think he gets a pass for now

You pretty much ignored all the points I had made. I mentioned the fumbles and how it put the defense in bad spots. What you have failed to acknowledge is the defense never stepped up to overcome the fumbles, each one resulted in a Philly TD and 2 recoveries were near mid-field.

In 11 drives the Eagles had 7 touchdowns, a field goal and a missed field goal. The defense forced a punt twice all afternoon, they showed they were not able to stop the Eagles offense and if not for the missed field goal they would have given up 58 points.

Blaming the fumbles rather than the defense for the loss is simply not supported by the facts.

I'm just looking at the defense as a whole. Who is responsible for bringing in those FA? Ok, we all know the answer to that. Who is responsible for bringing in defensive staff? Ok, we all know the answer to that. So it's THESE people responsible to fix it? My point being, my faith in that happening is about a 3 on the scale of 1-10. There have been 4 new DC's hired in the past week. That doesn't include Saleh. So, teams with better run defenses than ours are looking to improve. We are hoping new players (better players as most reference here) will turn this defense into a juggernaut. It's not the coaching but the players most are saying here. Most of the players have been playing defensive football for 15-20 years of their lives. This year they must have forgotten how to do that, lol.

I would have run a scheme more suited to the players I have. Whether that was more presence at the LOS, additional scheming instead of remaining in one set that teams study each week on tape. BB said he schemes EACH WEEK for the team he is playing. Meaning, he does not sit in a 4-2-5 and say, go get'em boys every week. There are ways to create miss matches, runs stunts, blitz packages for certain situations etc. Yes, it can become complex for players at times but if the right staff (coach) is presenting, teaching, communicating each week the game plan, techniques, strategies and discipline it takes for each opponent, the results will be there. Certainly, better than the results we observed last week that repeated themselves all year. But hey, let's just keep blaming the poor results on defensive on the players.

My semi rant on this is to hold someone accountable for the poor results that never improved. We just talked about them for 19 weeks. I witnessed very little to no improvement from last May to Jan 26th.

You keep mentioning the 16th spot on defense. Just stop. We saw the 16th ranked defense last week and it was awful and looked like the same last ranked defense from the year before. Actually, it was, it just had lipstick on it. I didn't say I expected anyone to get fired in year one. My concern is, these same coaches will be tasked with improving the defense in year 2. My faith in these same defensive coaches drastically improving a run defense in year 2 is minimal at best. Its all about coaching imo.

COACHING IS EVERYTHING!

With your coaching background i get your frustration, and i definitely agree with accountability. If this was year 3 and we missed the playoffs, I'd fully agree with you. I do feel in several games losses during the regular season, it came to the players not using proper techniques, instead of the playcalling. In the eagles game, i was baffled how on 4th down Hurts was able to loft a pass to AJ brown, no pressure nor a defensive call for safety help. I do feel this guy, is having to adjust with his DTs playing poorly and in the beginning of the year having to play St. POOP and stix. Next year hopefully he gets more of who he wants and improves. Always enjoy your sports angles even if i don't agree
