This is pretty exciting news. I can't wait 'til the Niners move to Santa Clara. Good riddance to SF...

Any word on whether the Niners will have to share the stadium with friggn' Oakland?

Sickness, the stadium was presented and sold to the investors and the City of Santa Clara as a two team stadium - (in other words all the financial projections for revenue included figures based on the Raiders moving in by (I think) 2020.

To my knowledge, there is no formal commitment that the stadium WILL have two teams, but the 'two team' card is in full play.

If the NFL has their way it will be a 'two-team' stadium. My only solace from that possibility is knowing that it will be our area and not in Oakland.

Thanks MW. Sharing the stadium is probably the prudent & best long-term thing for the team to do; it's just one of those truths that's hard to accept...

My main concern is that sometimes it takes longer than a week for the smell to subside from the Raider fans (few they may be) if they had a game there the week before.

Haha...yeah, I want no part of sharing it either.

They should just move Oakland to LA.

YES! And not just the Raiders... THE ENTIRE CITY OF OAKLAND! Move it down to L.A. so there can be just one big toilet of California all in one convenient place.

...And pick Stockton up on the way down.

Why in the world is Santa Clara loaning the 49ers and the NFL money in the first place? How did it go from less than $80 million to $850 million?

Poor Santa Clara is getting a proper fucking.

NFL approves $200M loan for San Francisco 49ers' stadium - ESPN

NFL OKs $200M loan for 49ers stadium

INDIANAPOLIS -- NFL owners have approved a $200 million loan to help the San Francisco 49ers build a stadium south of Santa Clara.

Owners approved another part of the funding package on Thursday. The team and Santa Clara announced in December that they'd received an $850 million loan to cover most of the estimated $1 billion cost.

The rest of the cost will be covered by the league's loan, a hotel tax and Santa Clara's redevelopment funds.

"With the NFL's muscle now behind the new stadium, we are moving forward," 49ers CEO Jed York said in a statement. "I expect an official ground-breaking ceremony very soon. Get your hard hats ready; we are embarking on the path to the next generation of 49ers football."

The 49ers have to address their current Candlestick Park lease with the city of San Francisco. It hopes to have the new, 67,000-seat stadium open for the 2015 season.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

Exciting news for the Niners and their fans. Hope they get to host the 2016 Super Bowl, 50th anniversary or golden anniversary. It would also be fitting if the 49ers made it to Super Bowl L. 49ers and "gold" go together!
