Apparently now the NFL will be restricting freedom of speech as well. Anything a ref considers offensive will be flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Great so now every time someone gets their feeling hurt it is a penalty. Apparently the NFL is not even going to try to hide the fact they will just throw a flag at any time to alter a game to get their desired results.

Welcome to the National Fairy League.

Actually, the rule is not really new. Just going to be enforced much more and Commissioner Hitler has informed officials that he wants to stress it this year.

It was bad when it was introduced. Now it's even worse... :L

The rampant need for the PC community to dictate what people are allowed to say and what words are appropriate is reaching epic levels. This is beyond dangerous territory...

Fuck censorship.

A lot of the bad language comes through on the TV broadcasts. I imagine there was some arm twisting from the networks to clean it up. Dont necessarily agree with it, doesn't hurt my sensibilities to hear such charming expressions as, "I'm gonna take your fuckin' manhood, bitch!!!". But I can understand the move from a business image standpoint.

The main concern of this is the "N" word and calling people any slurs that refer to homosexuality, and other racial epitaphs.

That being said, I'll bet you a Coke no one gets flagged for calling anyone a 'redneck' as I'm willing to bet this rule only applies to minority slurs.

And yes, it's sponsor driven.

What's going to be interesting is when one black player calls another the "N" word.

My guess is that refs wont throw the hankie unless there's some other stuff going on like fighting, and they'll use this to tack onto it.

I dont care what people say, they're just words. But we got flagged for saying shit in high school. I have to believe a " grown man" and a "professional" on top of that can find a way to use different words on the field.

I swear like crazy at home, I dont at work. Big deal.

I'm more concerned they're going to ruing games again with their mamby pampy interpretation of PI rules than i m concerned about language on the field

I agree with the above poster that this isn't the league per say wanting this but the Networks. With people having more and more access to the players on the field with players being wired up, better microphones that can pick up even the smallest noise, and cameras zoomed in on these players to the point you can tell what food they ate for breakfast by what is still stuck in their teeth (a bit of an exaggeration). Because of all that and the Networks knowing that quite a few of the viewers are children that they have to regulate some of that. The more cussing and such that comes out of these players mouth's the more families that will be turning off the game not wanting their kids to hear all of these things.

This seriously does just come down to money. The reason we have such good access to games these days is because the NFL is such a good money maker. The money starts going away then expect us to not have the quality of access to games that we do.

What's the over and under on how many years until the NFL turns into flag football?

I dread the day I may have to collect football helmets like they were war armor from Greek/Roman times or something and become hard to find as each year passes.

Bo Pelini got flagged for calling a ref a cock sucker once. He was a cock sucker, so it's not like he was wrong.

Again some seem to forget what drives this sport forward is the money. Money talks in this league and so when these Networks are paying billions of dollars for the rights to air these games they have a little say in what is allowed on the field. Yes it sucks that these players are being censored some but I don't think taking away cussing from these players is going to affect the game all that much at all.

"Why damn (oops) John, why did you get all up in my face, I will have to send you an email with a disparaging remark about your mother. Look for it, I'm not kidding".
