Day to Day
This will be my final update until I get released.
Had a quart of blood taken for every conceivable test and exam. The Doc was amazed because I'm either normal or above normal for everything. So I'm a full go.
Wednesday (1/4) afternoon I get admitted to the New England Heart Institute at Catholic Medical Center in Manchester.
Wednesday evening I'll meet with the entire surgical team and the anesthesiologist. I'll have about 15-20 minutes of cardiological education and they'll go over the entire procedure.
Then I'll go to sleep and the surgical nurses will wake me up at 5:00 AM on Thursday morning (1/5). They'll prep me and I'll get my first dose of relaxant. At 6:15 AM I'll be rolled into the surgical theatre and get my dose of twilight sleep. No machines, I'll breathe on my own. At Approx. 6:30 AM they'll slow down my heartbeat about half and the Cardiological Surgeon will insert a tube into my femoral artery in my right groin and then he'll send a camera and TAVAR up to my heart. Once he gets the rhythm of my heartbeat, he'll insert the TAVAR into my aortic valve and hopefully the TAVAR will not miss a beat. If it sets in place, my heartbeat will slow down even more to about 1/3 normal. They'll give me something to eliminate the drugs that slowed me down and most likely my heart will be working much better and the normal heartbeat will be reduced by 12-15 beats a minute because the valve will allow more blood from one side to the other. Someone has to keep pressure on my groin while the tube is removed and keep it on while an air pressure bandage is applied to keep the artery closed. Should take about four hours to heal and then they'll start letting air out.
About 7:15 AM I'll be rolled into the Recovery Room and should be back in my hospital bed by 9:30-10:00.
If all goes well, I'll be released sometime Friday and should be back on SportsHoopla Saturday.
