Yeah, I'm sure that's right, according to the rule.

But a freeze frame of James crossing the goal line with the ball firmly in his hands...looks identical to a runner doing the same, but it doesn't count. Just seems inconsistent.

One other very important thing that no one has really talked about. Even if James had been able to control the ball over the end line, it still would not have been a TD. His knee was clearly down before he extended the ball. The Steelers did not have a any timeouts left and if the officials had called a time out to review the play, then Tomlin would have gone for the touchdown and the same result would have occurred.

My mistake.....just watched the play again and James was not touched before he crossed the goal line. If he had controlled the ball it would have been a TD. I apologize.

It seems once the ball moves in these situations, its almost by default ruled incomplete, and little thought of it hitting the ground is given

I think the angle they have here shows it touching the ground, but is that really clear?

I saw an angle shot where the yip of the ball hits the ground and the ball actually is in the air without either of hands touching the ball. If you see that angle, it's a simple interpretation of the written rule and it's an incomplete pass.

I saw where the tip hit the ground, but not one where the hands were off it.

I said NE got the win. I can't get any more right than that. I'm encouraged in reading you agree it's a bad rule. Which takes me back to my point about in the spirit of the game. The game has been bastardized and this ruling was just one more nail in that coffin.

Eventually you'll remove those homer shades and be able to see shit like this is what is tanking the game. Nobody should be happy by that call. Not even NE fans.
The spirit of the game is an asinine comment, it's akin to "Gee officer I know I am driving and I am drunk as hell but it's the holiday. In the spirit of the holidays can you not write that ticket?"

There are no homer glasses here, the rule is what it is, we agree it's a dumb rule but it is the rule there is no gray area.

Has anyone blamed Big Ben for making that dumb throw yet?
No they are all to busy blaming the Pats for the refs making the correct call

partially torn calf. out for the remaining 2 regular season games, but assuming it's nothing worse than a grade 1 or 2 tear, he should be healed for the playoffs, especially if the steelers maintain a 1st round bye

yeah, it's a fuckheaded rule, but by the letter of the law, it wasn't a TD.

So here's the problem guys. The NFL officials are not consistent AT ALL in the way they call this ball on the ground bullshit with catches. If Andre Roberts' catch tonight at the beginning of the fourth quarter was a catch, then Jesse James caught that ball.

The rule is shit, and by the rule I understand why James wasn't given credit with the catch. But, these dipshits in black and white need to figure out how to be consistent. .

They cannot be consistent with the rule as it is.
How the hell do you tell if a ball already moving 3 dimensionally is moving?
Of course it's moving! It was already moving!!!!!

Good call - bad rule.
