First of all thanks to all who posted their love.

My thank god part of this is that my uncle was too sick to have breakfast that morning on one of the top floors as it was scheduled.

My most horrible story from that day was a landlord to an office I was working at the time. His birthday is today, and his son rescheduled a business trip to London so that he could be with his father for his birthday. He was on the 86th floor in his office when a plane hit.

I thank everyone for remembering.

Mark Bavis and Ace Bailey of the LA Kings scouting staff were in one of the planes that day. Kings had Hockey fest today: An event to start the new season, with panels and autographs and other hockey stuff. I was a little upset that at the first panel that they didn't mention 9-11 or Mark and Ace. There is a huge banner over the practice ice but I didn't hear anyone say anything. Maybe they did it at a function I wasn't at.

An Iowa boy became the first person in Iraq/Afghanistan to receive the Medal Of Honor this weekend while he is still Alive. All others were posthumously (I think I spelled that ok)

Not bragging, it just makes me feel good.

No disrespect intended, but if we are truly to remember, then we must not forget that the perpetrators' religion was the vehicle which enabled them to believe a warped notion that 30 virgins awaited them in reward for doing such a heinous act.

We must also not forget that Bin Laden is still alive, which is totally unacceptable and one of the things that pisses me off the most when I "remember" (I put that in quotes because there is no way I'll ever forget).

I actually think he's been dead for years now.

And yeah, I'm fairly sure that nobody that lived through it would ever forget. The Challenger Disaster and 9/11 - those are two events vividly stuck in my memory that I will never forget where I was or what I was doing. Especially since I was passing by the White House the moment I found out about the attacks. But to be honest, I think we actually focus on them a little TOO much.

Good to remember those we lost and to continue to use the lessons of that day for positive change. Bad to obsess over it too much and give the cowardly fucks who attacked us more credit than they deserve.

I am just not convinced that anything that was accomplished in Iraq will have any lasting impact after we leave (if we ever do) so I think may end up just being a waste of lives and money.

As for Afghanistan, how much progress has been made in 9 years? Is the world or the US safer now than it was 9 years ago? So while I understand your sleeping giant comment, I am not sure I agree.

I'd like to think we have done some lasting good the last 9 years, enough to justify the losses we have incurred along the way but I am not sure we have. Perhaps I am just pessimistic though.

And I really don't mean to argue or nitpick, but the terrorists didn't do it just for the virgins. They thought they would be rewarded with the virgins for being a martyr in what they saw as a just holy war. They thought what they were doing was right and what Allah would want. I am not sure that's any better or worse, but its different.
