The NCAA is giving PSU scholarships back. Starting in 2014-2015, PSU will receive 5 additional scholarships. They will gradually get more as the years move along.

Good for PSU, sanctions were ridiculous anyway.

PSU will have 75 scholarships in 2014, 80 in 2015 and the full allotment of 85 in 2016.

The sanctions were not ridiculous. They harbored and enabled a child molester. If they were not a huge corporation then those people would be in prison.

Interesting...

Rumors circulating that the bowl ban will be reduced as well. Obviously won't be announced anytime soon but people out there are suggesting it will.

Really? I was unaware that anyone who was involved in that situation still worked there or went to school there... :noidea:

Aside from the actual merit of the sanctions, this is going to be a PR nightmare for an already laughed at NCAA. They are reducing the punishment because their monitor says they are acting exemplary in their response. Did the USC monitor say the same thing? Did they even have a monitor? Will Miami? Is there any precedence for this? These are questions that will be asked. It will look like the NCAA buckled for one of their big time pillar schools that had the (apparently completely wrong) image of doing things right.

You can absolutely debate whether the punishment was fair or not but once it was delivered it was delivered. Going back opens Pandora's box, IMO.

They should be.allowed.to play in bowls then...if the ncaa is giving back schollies they need to not punish the kids who stayed or signed an LOI

I guess my problem with the whole situation is they're punishing people who had nothing to do with the atrocities committed...

Everyone who was in a leadership role when this happened has been fired, prosecuted, or both...

I.E. Student athletes and the student body, not to mention the other sports programs that rely on football for funding...

They're acknowledging that they stepped way out of their boundaries on their ruling. It was a criminal case to begin with.

This is unprecedented, but the NCAA acted unprecedented when they handed down the sanctions. This was never put forth in front of the COI. Because of that, this was always an option.

What USC and Miami did was against the rules regarding football and the NCAA

The crimes committed and the continuance of employment of the perpetrator was also unprecedented. He didnt bag money a recruit or hook a player with an apartment.
Continuance of employment? The last he coached was in 1999.

Exactly this was a criminal case because it was criminal in nature. And Sandusky's last year of employment was the 1999 season.
