Speaking only for myself here but I would have MUCH rather watched these match-ups this year than some of the gawd-awful bowl games that have been on tv this season. And one of these match-ups DID occur with # 10 Seed upsetting # 7 Seed Michigan 41-15

These 16 teams are the top 16 teams in the last College Football Playoff rankings BTW

Should have mentioned that in the first post here.

We would have to cut down a week of the regular season and get rid of conference championship week

Ok, I'd be in favor of this

would never happen, but I'd be in favor of it

Sorry but you're simply wrong. There is PLENTY of time after the last regular season and conference championship games to play for four weeks. For instance the Mtn West championship game was on Dec. 1st this year. The week after that the ONLY game was the Army vs Navy game on Dec. 8. You could begin a 16 team playoff the week after that on Dec. 15th. That is the same date the Bowl Games began this season.

Although with 8 games the first week at least 3 of them would have to be played a day or two before that Saturday as there are only so many games you can have on TV - assuming you want the viewers to be able to see all of them. Maybe have two games on the Thursday and two more on the Friday prior to that Saturday. Leaving 4 games for that Saturday.

1st Round - Dec. 15th - From 16 teams down to 8

2nd Round - Dec. 22nd - From 8 teams down to 4

3rd Round - Dec. 29th - From 4 teams down to 2

4th Round - January 5th - From 2 teams down to 1

It's not the timing of the games that's the issue, it's the number of games played that's the biggest problem

If teams still play conference championships, that's 17 games for the teams that play for the championship. That's more than most NFL teams play, no way this would be allowed to happen.

Sorry but you are wrong again. NFL teams play in 5 preseason games. Then they play 16 regular season games and then they play as many as 4 games in their playoffs. That's 25 games - possible - for TWO of the 32 teams.

Also, with 16 college teams playing in the first round eight of those teams are one and done, i.e., out after losing in the first round. So their total number of games would be 14 or 15 games. Four more teams are eliminated the following week (max 15 or 16 games). Two more are eliminated in the 3rd week (max 16 or 17 games).

Preseason games aren't even real games, most NFL starters play like one series of those. Even then, they're players doing this professionally. What we're talking about here are college students...not a chance they have them play that many games
