As I said on Mash/RJ I can see the argument (although we probably shouldn't be discussing RJ) and it's easy to look at 3 point percentage and say "better shooter". That's an easy path to take when you're talking slightly different eras (granted there is overlap) but RJ benefitted way more from the rule changes. And again he often played on better teams therefore he is seeing better shots.

Basketball is hard from a pure statistical standpoint especially with 3 point percentage. Larry Bird is 146th all time in 3 point percentage as an example. Is Hubert Davis a better shooter than Larry Bird?

There's a couple guys who I think we fall in love with basketball wise that to me didn't offer up as much as other guys who can do much more on both ends or be a guy that can create his own shot.

Yeah true, good points. Point is you really can't go wrong with either imo. I might be biased on RJ a little, Mashburn was a damn good pure scorer. I wouldn't say the era they played in were that lopsided though, plenty of guys were shooting 3's in the 90's

I think I'm biased towards guys like DC and Mash because they were elite college players. Like if you put DC on the Bulls sure his PPG take a hit but how's he viewed then? Sure...not a star but some guys fall into better situations I guess I'm saying

Yeah Mash was on some damn good Miami teams, that one year they lost to the Bulls in the ECF's but they had a really nice core.

And look at his 3 point shooting in 99/00

Yeah a career year for him shooting wise and you see his PPG drop, just like RJ on some of those very good teams. Like I said, not much of a difference I just prefer RJ and a more proven shooter especially late in his career when he had to rely on it more. Mash had a very nice peak though on those bad Hornet teams

The problem with Mash also was that he was constantly injured. If he was able to stay healthy I think you would have seen more development of his game. He had a really good skill set. His post game was nice and he was a pretty good passer as well. Jefferson was more of a slasher. His 3 point shooting didn't go up until he started to lose a bit of his explosiveness and later on into his career. For the most part of his productive seasons as a top end starter, he was a finisher more than anything. RJ was definitely good, but I'd take Mashburn over him if both were healthy.

Yeah but ultimately injuries can make a break a career and they definitely affected Mashburn's career. I will take the more efficient guy, the better rebounder and guy willing to play more defense most of the time. Mashburn was the better pure scorer but even before Jefferson fell off he had a more established long-range jumpshot. I will say if Mashburn's career lasted longer he would have probably established a deadly jumpshot like RJ but unfortunately it didn't...that is part of the player comparison though. A guy playing 6 years more in the league, makes a difference imo. I just feel RJ could help his team more than Mashburn ultimately and that's what it comes down to it. Like I said, it's close either way though.

But I will say neither player can touch Dion Waiters in his prime...sorry for name dropping
