NBA Playoffs...

Would anyone like to see the elimination of conferences and just have divisions--5 divisions of 6, perhaps? The playoff matchups would look something like this. Keep in mind, this wouldn't be the guaranteed matchups since the schedule(s) would be different amongst other things.

(1)GS (73-9) vs (16)CHI (42-40)
(8)ATL (48-34) vs (9)BOS (48-34)

(4)TOR (56-26) vs (13)DET (44-38)
(5)OKC (55-27) vs (12)POR (44-38)

(2)SA (67-15) vs (15)MEM (42-40)
(7)MIA (48-34) vs (10)CHA (48-34)

(3)CLE (57-25) vs (14)DAL (42-40)
(6)LAC (53-29) vs (11)IND (45-37)

This would NEVER happen because the team owners would cause a shit storm over the loss of playoff revenue.

This has to be up there with the stupidest ideas ever presented. People already complain about sub .500 teams in the playoffs. Now the solution is to have teams in the playoffs that have barely cracked 20 wins? Simmons should be banned from the air during the playoffs for even speaking of such a plan publicly with anything but pure disdain.

And Wiggy, if this was anything but sarcasm, you should be banned for the playoffs as well.

Yeah, that Simmons idea is out to lunch. I could support what the OP is proposing though.

Neither idea is likely to ever happen. The OP's idea comes up just about every playoffs, especially when teams with better records in one conference, don't make it in and teams with worse records from the other conference do. The problem is that most seasons, it really doesn't effect enough teams negatively.

As for the Simmons idea. That won't happen because as someone pointed out, playoff revenue and as others pointed out...it's stupid.

Also we're talking about some team like Chicago with a 42-40 record not making the playoffs. Where they would be cannon fodder for whomever they play. Who cares what teams barely squeak in the playoffs? Unlike football or baseball the top 1 or 2 seeds usually win it all. Never lower than 6 I think when the Rockets did that.
