I think KG will try to go to LAC and if not, maybe retire

The Dallas Mavericks believe they have a better shot of landing center Dwight Howard in free agency this summer than point guard Chris Paul, according to the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram. The newspaper cited a source who said Paul is likely to stay with the Clippers because of the firing of coach Vinnie Del *****. That means the chances of getting the disgruntled Howard from the Lakers are better. Howard is reportedly not enamored with Lakers coach Mike D'Antoni.

"I think Chris Paul, depending on who (the Clippers) hire, is going to stay with the Clippers," the source said. "The Mavericks are really interested in Chris Paul, but I think they want Dwight more. They think they can make them a point guard." The point guards the Mavericks are reportedly interested in are the Golden State Warriors' Jarrett Jack and Jerryd Bayless of the Memphis Grizzlies. Both players were important in getting their teams to the playoffs and will be free agents starting July 1. The Mavericks are reportedly trying to trade their first round draft pick (No. 13 overall) to create salary-cap space to go after Howard.

The Lakers are in the best position to retain Howard because they can offer him a five-year, $118 million contract. No other team can offer more than a four-year, $87.6 million deal. Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki has said he is willing to take less money when he becomes a free agent next year to help the team acquire another star player. Howard has listed the Mavericks, Houston Rockets and Lakers on his short list of teams for which he wants to sign.

So the question is what Boston does with the rest of the roster.

They'll probably drop Pierce and Jason Terry. My guess is they both try to work on a deal with the Clippers. The big question is whether Garnet retires or tries to get out of Boston as well.

If I were almost any GM in the league, I would be shooting for trying to pry at least one of Jeff Green or Avery Bradley off of them. Doubt they are too willing to get rid of either one though.

The only reason to break up James/Wade/Bosh right now is if Arison doesn't want to pay into the tax heavy. Hell, even if he doesn't want to pay it, I'd still keep them for one more year. Look at how OKC screwed themselves up by moving Harden a year early. I'd listen to offers but I wouldn't actively push for one. Only reason I'd listen is you gotta start planning past 2014 so if some team makes a stupid offer tossing young talent and picks for Bosh, do it. But like I said, field offers but don't push for them.

I'd really just tinker with things. Miller isn't worth the salary so I'd amensty him and maybe consider not picking up Chalmers team option but I'd look at the FA guards first.

2013-14: 12 players under contract $85.6M payroll. they are already in luxury tax hell

I think KG eventually gets traded to the LAC. Some time needs to pass though so it doesn't look like the two deals are related.

That's what they're doing. Jordan and pick will get traded for KG. They might throw another contract in there like Lee or Terry.

There's penalties if you violate it for X number of years in a certain time span. That's what I'm referring. If they were to trade Bosh (or Wade) to a team under the cap, they could bring back cheaper assets. Then they could conceivably resign Lebron (and the other Big 3 member they keep) to staggered deals. Front offices will start getting creative by staggering contracts with front loads, back loads, etc so they won't go over the tax in a certain year, thus avoiding the penalty. That's if they want to avoid the repeater's tax penalty. If not, Arison could just pay it and keep chugging along although it also severely limits their roster moves. They basically lose all midlevel exceptions and can only sign minimum level players.

From what I'm reading Stern won't allow a trade with a Boston Player heading to LAC. According to Marc Stein of ESPN, he would see a subsequent KG to the Clips deal as connected and thus in violation.

Looks like the Doc deal is going through, but no players. I wonder how they'll get around this?

The Doc deal has now been officially approved by the NBA. Next rumor regarding the Clippers is a draft day deal with Orlando sending Afallo to the Clippers for Beldsoe and Butler. This would certainly fill a Clipper's need which is a need for an athletic wing player that can play defense.

Landry is opting out according to Marc Stein. GSW could be in big trouble if they fail to re-sign he and Jack.

yep especially when July 1st hit which is when FA can begin meeting with other teams.

I did read this morning on hoopshype that the 3 most likely big name players to be traded by or on draft night are Granger, Aldridge, and Deng.

It always seem like the Bulls are trying to trade Deng

According to ESPN, the Doc to the Clippers deal is NOT done yet. Clips lawyers are still going over some of the wording in the contract, so it hasn't been agreed to completely yet and it has not been sent to the league for approval (at least as of 6:30am this morning).

I don't have a care in the world for the Sixers. But Bynum's a douche on so many levels for how the season went for the 76ers. Who would've thought that out of all the teams in the Dwight Howard trade that it was the sixers who got the worse end of it.

i think bynum is a douche for alot of reasons as well.. mainly parking in handicap spaces. but i dont see a problem with anything he has done since his trade. the 76ers traded for a player with suspect knees on the final year of his deal. some of this responsibility has to lay at the 76ers feet. hey, maybe they wont resign anyone, tank the season, and get the #1 pick. BRILLANT!
