Yeah, considering what they lost talent wise and that it was only 1 season...you may be a bit premature with that assessment. Just losing Caleb Williams was huge...add the other talent they lost, a new coaching staff with new schemes, etc. They were in a tough spot.

They finished 6-7, but 4 of their losses were by a field goal and another was by a touchdown. So, it's not like they weren't competitive.

All things considered; it could have been far worse.

Maybe give him a couple of recruiting classes and another season or 2 before deciding he's not good enough?
My whole point is the SEC is a different beast than the Conference they are leaving. And it's not like they are going to the East....they are going to the loaded West.

It all lumps together until they change the narrative and start winning some playoff games.

Takes a long time to wash that stink off.

Solid isn’t enough.

So yes.

Because right now they are hamstrung with the past that Snyder put them through.
I guess entitled to your opinion.....mine is I hold guys accountable only for what they did. Good or bad.

I disagree. Alabama Georgia LSU are givens. From one year to the next you can get teams like Florida Tennessee rolling as well.
I think his opinion is fair and would put Oklahoma ahead of LSU. did not realize this until I looked recently but between their title in 1998 or so and last season Tennessee has been at best a middling program.

Of course it’s a different beast. The west you are referring to is even more loaded now with OU, that’s the proper way to look at it.

I got you. We aren’t talking about Stoops or Riley though. This is Venebles now. Great DC. Meh head coach. They were a .500 team in a mediocre league last time out.
Guess that's also true and need to see Venables do something that matters.

Agree. How ever their recent hire (ironically a former OU guy) seems to have them on a good path. And would disagree with LSU. That program has produced 3 coaches that were able to win national titles there. Louisiana is an under rated state for football prospects.

Oh, and by the way starting in 24 Divisions are no longer a thing in the SEC, the top 2 will play for the title.

I certainly hope it’s a good path, yet to be seen. The truth is Venables was the only choice to maintain some identity. He certainly has a lot on him.

He had commented on Tennessee post Phil Fulmer. I was referencing the job Josh Heupel has done there.

I don’t know that he’s tradeable. The Colts are going to want at least a 2nd or 3rd. Shit…it’s Irsay so they may demand a 1st. Then his new team is going to have to step up to at least come close to his contract demand. His production slots him right around Barkley’s 10-11 million. Not a lot of teams have that much cap space right now. An interested party may have to renegotiate 2-3 existing deals to kick the can down the road in order to free up that cap.
If only it was another team looking to move him. Irsay gave us a 1st rounder.....for Trent Richardson.

Truth is both Heuple and Venables were kind of run off. By far Stoops biggest mistake, letting his brother come back to replace the guy that became the best defensive guy in the Country.

They may be underrated but seems like recently other than the magical title season they have not been anything special most years. OU was already considered a pretty good program so thinking the move to the SEC only helps.

^^^This is the big reason why I’m projecting that ND will be joining the B10 sooner as opposed to later. A move that has gone under the radar with this is the recent announced retirement of ND AD Jack Swarbrick. He’s older so retirement makes sense. However, he still has good years left. I don’t think he wanted to be the AD that has ND give up football independence. The writing is on the wall. It’s time too. I was always a fan who would defend ND’s independence as their wasn’t a conference in the country that would allow for them to maintain their coast to coast scheduling philosophy. But with the B10 adding two PAC 12 schools that’s no longer a concern.
I think something might have to change overall with conferences or at least in the BIG....meaning I'm not sure would want a 17 team conference. Not even sure they'd want 18.

Maybe a couple 24 teamers? I think that might be more likely.

Is that reputation or is that legitimately something they earned? ND catches shit for getting clowned in playoff competition and in BCS championship games. Doesn’t that apply to OU as well? It’s been awhile since Stoops won their last national title. Since then LSU has won 3 with 3 different coaches. That speaks to the quality of the program. LSU doesn’t have the name recognition or the history but I would disagree with anybody saying that since 2000 LSU hasn’t been the better football program.

Yeah, that SEC is a different beast thing is pretty overblown. They are no different than any other conference in the sense that they are top heavy with 3ish teams, some middle of the road teams and dregs.

For the most part, the top of the SEC has been better than the top of other conferences, but even then, we've seen the likes of Clemson and tOSU beat them.

agree and for a good stretch the top was pretty much just Bama. Then again, the top of the BIG was just OSU most years, too.
