And you're skeptical of everything.
Everything? No. But, yes, I do understand FOs in NBA and NFL like to keep draft, trade and even FA intel to themselves. I also know that many of the big deals made - especially in NBA - were those no one really saw coming. In addition, I know trade rumors can be thrown out and no accountability if wrong and they garner clicks so why not?

Was a recent one in NBA that might qualify as such (didn't see coming)...cannot recall what it was though. Little help?

Yeah when Hurts was drafted he wasn’t a very good passer. I think his improvement + his ridiculous athleticism helped a ton. Having a guy with great athleticism can make up for weaknesses but yeah they built a beast around him

That's why it could work for the Raiders, at least for a few years. They'll have Sanders on a rookie deal which means they can spend more in other spots. That's what the Seahawks did with Russell Wilson. Eagles with Hurts.

The problem comes when teams have to start paying them and have to make cuts other places.

Yep. And the Raiders have almost 100 mill in cap space once they release Minshew. Which is expected.

Plus their big FA acquisition last offseason (Wilkins) missed most of last season. He and Crosby should form a nice duo on the DL.

And Carroll was pretty damn good hire as the new HC. As bad as things have been since releasing.Carr....things are looking up now.

Yeah, even though he's old...Pete has always related better to younger players which the Raiders have. As they get older, the players start eyerolling and he becomes less effective.

Be careful

Spending big in free agency rarely works out well unless the team is a player or 2 away. Like the Eagles were.

Raiders have a lot of holes. If you fill them in free agency, you are going to overspend on vets whose best days are often in the past.

Better to be patient, rebuild through the draft and make those small shrewd moves that improve depth vs the big free agency splash

I know. I think they do a combo of spend some and draft as well.

I think Carroll targets some of his former players with Seattle.

Gonna be interesting with the Raiders...they're definitely not a player or 2 away type team...but they aren't a total rebuild either. They might be able to get away with a quick rebuild...but as you point out, they'll need to be shrewd and stay away from the older, expensive veterans.

Yeah, not a total rebuild at all. They definitely have needs but have some talent at the same time.

Maybe they could pull a Washington if they land a QB and make some shrewd FA moves? Maybe, but not gonna guarantee it in the tough and difficult AFC West.

The bold is where the patience that @tlance mentioned will be important, imo. It's still going to take a little time for them to put everything together...so they could end up being a "better than their record" type team for a season or 2 because they're in a conference with teams who are equipped to take advantage of their learning period.

Yeah but at the same time Nix could have the ever present sophomore slump and the Chargers are the Chargers but have a good HC now.

All the West coaches are good to great.

PAC-12, NFC West, AFC West...ever notice how Carroll and Harbaugh keep ending up in the same conference?

The thing about Washington is they don’t have to beat Mahomes, Burrow, Jackson and Allen
