So my Lions fan buddy just admitted he tried calling Campbell about 4 times after last year. He was warning and begging him not to give Goff a big deal. I guarantee you he did it too, he didn’t tell anyone about it not to jinx them. This guy has wore Lions stuff for 50 years. Those are the ones I feel for.

I have a bigger issue with this than the refs missing roughing the passer calls on their own. If we are able to pick up on this I bet defenders on the other 31 teams noticed it as well
Aikman isn’t saying what he said if that’s not the case.

The bold is the difference. QB is arguably the most important position in all of sports and it's also the most vulnerable position in any sport.

I agree that the league probably goes a bit too far in protecting them, but for the good of the game, I'd rather they be overprotective.

I can remember when they weren't nearly as protected and the question going into the season for most QB's wasn't if they were going to miss games due to injury...it was a question of how many and when. Knocking the QB out of the game used to be an openly stated goal for every defense.

I'd be surprised if there were any significant changes.

About the only real change I could see happening is on plays like that first roughing call with Mahomes, where there was no helmet to helmet and the head and neck area contact was fairly soft, the refs aren't allowed to pick up that flag because there was still head and neck area contact. Hopefully they'll change it so that flag can be picked up.
It’s working too. No QBs missed significant time this year
