So the Carolina Panthers had both Darnold and Mayfield. That’s how bad they are.
More likely to get a Baker Mayfield type deal.Quite honestly a bunch of teams need to quit mortgaging their futures for unproven qbs. You can’t give Darnold $50 mil a year after 1 season, would be a horrible business decision.
It doesn’t hurt but all NFL teams have receivers. Just being with a well run organization makes all the difference. Got to have a plan, that’s something the Panthers clearly don’t have.Lots of teams had Darnold.
Throwing to JJ helps a lot.

Baker also benefited from failing quite honestly. That had a lot to do with quitting making commercials.Yep, makes you wonder what may have happened with some 1st round QB's who didn't make it and never were able to get to a well run team. Baker definitely benefitted from his time with the Rams as did Darnold with the Niners.
penix had his moments and he could definitely be the future. Washington is set for the next 10 yearsHow fast your franchise can turnaround when you hit on that qb selection in round 1
Age is important here. Darnold was too young when he came into the league. McCarthy is really young too. Let him sit again. It won't hurt him.Baker and Darnold are both on their 4th team.
What makes the Darnold situation really interesting is Darnold's age. He's only 27, so he's still early in his prime years. The Viking didn't draft McCarthy to sit him...but how do you sit Darnold with how he's played?
I agree with the 2 years (or 3 with team option) at around $30ish per year. If he keeps playing like he has this year, you can look at trading McCarthy...if he doesn't...you can trade him or keep him as a backup.
Either way, for the Vikings, it's a good problem to have. I'd love to see my Seahawks make a trade for 1 of them and see what they can do with DK, Lockett and Smith-Njigba...I love Geno, but there's a reason he's been a career backup.
Well we certainly know who had the most home prime time games

LOL. You must have missed the end of their STL run. They didn't care until the team decided to leave. If they were in st louis then people would care
I've never liked the idea of playing rookie QB's right away.
Teams that are drafting QB's in the first round, especially early in the first round, are typically bad teams and the QB comes in expected to be the "savior".
I think at least a couple of seasons worth of watching from the sidelines and having some "mop up duty" at the end of games is best for the vast majority of rookie QB's. When QB's were coming in and getting huge contracts right away, I could understand it some...but now they get rookie deals which allows a team to bring in a veteran placeholder for the rookie to learn from.
I think the exception is if you have a mature NFL ready guy like Andrew Luck or Joe Burrow
But yeah, in most cases a little time on the bench isn’t a bad thing.
Just look at Bryce Young. Not exactly lighting the world on fire, but he was the worst QB in the league when he got benched. Has been solid since returning.
