I don’t believe anyone practices with a tee they can’t use do they?Kicking off a tee with no defense is a far different task however...

There is no tee when he practices.....but with no tee and a defense in a game situation, as Shane mentioned, his 58 yarder would have been good from 65-70.Kicking off a tee with no defense is a far different task however...

Never trust your players to do something they have never done. Pro players have to be supremely confident to get to that level, but don't game plan around their boasts.
He has done it though. Coaches have surely seen him do it.
Just not in a game.
He said he felt he could hit from 64.
Great.
Coach still should have gone for it because the odds are low.
But he can do it. It isn’t an empty boast like you are making it out to be.
Why so hard to believe a guy who has made a FG in game from 61 can hit from 3 yards further?

Yeah is a top kicker and has a good track record. It wasn’t ideal but you trust your veteran kicker. They did play their QB a shit ton of money to convert the 4th and 5 but they couldn’t convert anything that gameYep and if he hit a 61 yarder in a game, safe to say he has hit 63 or 64 in pregame
lol
It was a stupid decision, there's no defending it. Nathaniel Hackett has even admitted that he should have gone for it.
The longest field goal ever in Seahawks Stadium is 56 yards.
He was kicking at sea level, at night, next to Puget Sound so there was a lot of moisture in the air. He wasn't kicking in Denver and even in Denver it wouldn't have been the right decision. Just a little more understandable.
As @shopson67 pointed out, when a kicker has to kick with more power, he sacrifices accuracy. That's why he's 1 for 8 on attempts of 60 yards or longer.
There's absolutely nothing that supports that decision.
Yeah, it was a horrible decision...but it made ME happy...I am not defending it.
I said it was the wrong decision.
I am calling out @shopson67 because he is wrong to assume that the coaches didn’t know he was capable of making the kick and “were taking him at his word”.
Or that he “hadn’t done it before”.
NFL coaches are better than that.
Of course they have seen him make that kick in practice/warmups.
And yes, it was still a bad decision.
Yep.....LOL.lol

He is 1-5 on 60 yards or longer but that's not surprising. It is a hard kick to make. The most important thing is to have a kicker who at least got the leg to attempt it....you live with the accuracy aspect of it.
The best kicker in history is not much better on fg attempts 60+ yards as he is 1-3
