Well, 4 out of 5 aint bad... Shaq is not top 5
Shaq was number 5....I had Kobe, West, LeBron and Timmy all knocking on the door, to me, prime Shaq was a tougher matchup than the other greats:2cents:

I'm not gonna rip Russell to the point a lot if folks do, was just responding to the top 5 ever player comment. All 5 of the centers I named would get the better of Russell in a one on one matchup. But to say too 5 PLAYERS.... MJ, Magic, KAJ, Wilt and Shaq....I don't see Russell bumping that

No in reality the top 5 ever thing was hyperbole and the more I think about it the more im agreeing with you on the centers thing. That said I think hes mindbogglingly underrated on this forum. Cowens over Russell??? I mean thats just insane. Not to mention in the context of these drafts where we all have superstars and scorers all over the place, what better fit could you have then Russell. But oh well.

You forgot Oscar

Hakeem > Shaq

Some might put Bird in the top 5 as well...

Yeah, Oscar would bump Shaq to 2nd 10. Hakeem vs Shaq is a close deal.

Thing is I like Shaq as a player and even more so as a person but for the most part his game was catch ball run over defender slam! Hakeem actually had low post skills.

It helps when you are the only player on the court who does not have to keep your pivot for down

Oh, no doubt, but at 7'3", 320(340), and with crazy athletic ability, literally all you could do was foul him and let him clank FT's, which puts the rest of the team in the bonus, fouls out your big men......that's the thing about the Russell comparison, Russell was a great, but he was also really 6'9''. No chance

Thing about Russell for me is I dont think his game translates well to todays game.

I think Oscar is easily one of the top 5 players all time and its because I think his game would translate to today very well, I dont think he would average 30 12 10 but 25 10 7 would be very possible for him.

IMO Russell would be nothing more than Dennis Rodman in today's game a guy that grabbed some boards and played good D but couldnt score to save his life. I like Rodman but he is not top 5 all time...

Russell Westbrook averaged 28/7/9 last season. Wouldn't put triple double past Oscar today. With the rules in favor of the offense today, all the great offensive players would be more dominant IMO. Think about Jordan playing against the Bad Boys or the Knicks, the "Jordan Rules" of hand checking him and planting him on drives. Now put MJ, Magic, Oscar, KAJ, Wilt in today's game where you can't even hand check.... that's why your point on Russell not translating is so valid

I think Oscar would average 45-17-15-10-6 with 2 TOs out of boredom.

So vote me guys.

I would love to trade bucket 8 or 10 for a six.

If anyone is willing to swap, consider it a deal and take your pick of buckets from me.

I can't imagine oscar averaging a triple double now. He'd be great no doubt but his competition would be much better. Meanwhile Russell is athletic enough to translate. Obviously not gonna grab 25 boards a game but he'd still be great.
