It was textbook spear and it sure looked intentional. It's been a PF for > 40 years. Maybe they should get rid of the ejection part of the rule, but he ejected himself with that hit and he's lucky he isn't a vegetable today.

Yeah. I hate the targeting rule as much of the next guy. Made my feelings pretty clear about that awesome decleater being called because you’re apparently not allowed to block a guy who’s in the play if he doesn’t see you coming anymore.

But spearing like he did should absolutely be a penalty. And if any of the automatic ejections are justifiable, that kind of play is it.
