I never understood the hype of Big L. Never herd anything from him that I liked. I enjoyed Too Short's early stuff basically because I was about 12 and no one was saying the things that he was but he's a terrible rapper. Just terrible.

He was mostly punchlines, so I can see how he might not be someone's favourite. But he was the absolute king of punchlines. No denying the talent.

LOL great minds and whatnot lol. Rap has been shit since the early 00's. I don't even listen to it anymore other than old stuff occasionally.

I get what you're saying but there's still lots of good stuff being released, you just have to find it because it's not the stuff getting heavily promoted.

Joey Bada$$ album coming out in about 6 weeks I think, that's a release from a young guy that I'm excited for.

You can have your opinion. But this is the correct answer.

I was hoping someone would mention Rakim. Love the guy, he's just not in my top 5 and I don't think he gets enough respect.

You can pretty much say that abou the entire history of rap. Underground stuff was always better and when underground guys made it big it usually meant their music suffered.

There was a time when you could turn on your TV and see a Public Enemy video or a KRS-ONE interview though. Nowadays those types of artists don't get that kind of attention. Remember the bullshit with BET refusing to play Little Brother?

Hell, watch the freestyle from the final episode of Yo! MTV Raps, there's all kinds of dudes in that cypher that weren't commercial guys.

Pretty good underground list. Shit one them is dead.

I'd throw in MURS and the Felt albums.

Logic is my number 1 and I suppose he could be called "underground" at this point, but he has a track with Big Sean so that kinda fucks that whole theory.

It's like Kid Cudi except with a complicated rhyme scheme, and less "woe is me" type stuff.
