According to Cooley that is the design of the WCA and fans calling for deeper pattern are idiots. Funny how I don't remember the Bengals being this conservative.

Cooley is an idiot if he believes what you've written about him. If they are not going to take shots down field because design of the WCO, why not just deactivate Jackson for the remainder of the year? I Could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that stretching the field is one of the things that sets him apart from others.

The Bill Walsh version of the WCO relies on short to medium run passes that are horizontal to the line of scrimmage. That is not the entire offense. Once the defense has to open or spread itself then the run game should open up. Along with that once you have the defense defending the entire field because of the under routes you start taking shots at stretching the defense with long downfield plays.

Their are many variations of the WCO since Walsh was head coach. You know from Bengal history that Gruden liked to throw deep to AJ Green.

Traditional old football, was to run, run, run to suck the defense up to stop the run then throw over the top.

I know for sure that Cooley knows DJax is needed to take the top off the D and open up the field. Whenever you are lucky enough to have a WR who is a serious deep threat he tends to occupy two defenders. A CB and a safety which opens the field for other players.

It could get ugly quick against the line the Skins are putting out Sunday and then add lack of DJax and Reed. Whew!!!!! Dig a fox hole.
