Washington would be really surprising. Auburn and Oregon have fallen off, and obviously Cal isn't in the picture. The Utah win was good, but otherwise they've looked like crap.

After 22 it got difficult for me. I don't think they'll put teams like Utah State/Fresno State/Cincy etc in. So that leaves alot of 2/3 loss P5 teams. Oregon, Stanford, MSU, Iowa State, UVA, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State.

Yeah I'd strongly doubt you'll see any of those mid-majors in. I'd put all of those teams you mention in over Washington though, with the exception of Texas Tech and maybe UVA.

I feel pretty good about 1-22 on my list. 23-25 is gonna be tough to separate.

Interested on your reasoning on Iowa St. I think their resume is vastly superior to your last 4-5 teams and computer numbers bear that out is it just the overall record ?

They do have good wins. One top 25 and two .500+ wins. The overall record is what has me worried for them. And I've never gotten the impression the committee values CPU metrics towards the bottom of the rankings. And last year in their initial rankings they had no 3 loss P5 team ranked ahead of any 2 loss team. I think it's somewhat lazy thinking, but that's part of my reason for the trio of ACC schools. I think that'll change this year because I don't think UVA will crack the top 25 and in that case, more than likely a 3 loss P5 team will be ranked ahead of them.

That bad loss to Cal should knock them off the list and maybe they sneak back in around that slot after next week if they beat Stanford in anything close to the spread level. They have no business on that list as it stands.

Really has been a weird year for sure. Normally there are some still pretty decent teams around the middle/bottom, but this year has been full of so much mediocre football.

I honestly don't know what to expect from the playoffs even. Conventional wisdom suggests Bama is miles ahead of everyone else, but after that I'm not sure who is honestly better than who and Bama has already been facing teams in that next meh tier so how tested will they be?

If you love upsets and chaos, this has been the season for you. If you like watching high level college football? Not so much.

The only numbers that really matter in the CFP rankings are 1-5. 5th only matters because people always care about the one that was left out.
