Well it's that time again and here's my first mock of the year. Mock doesn't include Comp picks so the picks after the 3rd Round are the approximate selection which repeat every 32nd pick after the Bengal's 21st pick. Also the Bengals don't have a 7th Round pick but the 191st pick (appr.) is New England's 6th Round selection.

Round 1 (21st)- Johnthan Banks CB 6'2⅛" 185 Mississippi State

Round 2 (37th)- Justin Hunter WR 6'4" 205 Tennessee

Round 2 (53rd)- Tony Jefferson S 5'11" 210 Oklahoma

Round 3 (85th)- Andre Ellington RB 5'9⅜" 195 Clemson

Round 4 ( 117th)- Ricky Wagner OT 6'6¼" 317 Wisconsin

Round 5 (149th)- DeVonte Holloman OLB 6'2" 235 South Carolina

Round 6 (181st)- David Bass DE 6'4¼" 260 Missouri Western

I could see the Bengals liking Banks.... Marvin has always been a fan of tall corners. He and Dre would probably be the tallest tandem in the league -- Assuming Dre ever plays.

I don't think Banks or Hunter will be available at those picks. I don't think we need a CB that early either. We have to get LBer early. That is the biggest hole on out team.

And they still wouldn't be taller than Seattles CBs.

Sorry, but not a fan of that draft. I don't want to spend a high pick on Hunter. We have more important needs. If we don't target one of the LBs (Ogletree, Brown, etc) early in the draft, then it's a failure. I could live with a CB in the first, but WR in the 2nd is no good

The Draft is always about who's available when it's your turn to make your pick. Those who's believe the Bengals are going to select a LB with their first pick are going to be greatly disappointed. I know prospects will rise and fall during the evaluation process but at the moment LB Alec Ogletree is ranked 11th and would not be available at the 21st pick while Arthur Brown, who carries a second round grade, is ranked 66th overall and would not worth taking in the 1st round. Last season I discussed the 'Bell Theory' which had accurately chosen the Bengal's pick in 6 of the previous 9 drafts (Palmer '03 ranked 1|drafted 1, Pollack '05 ranked 14| drafted 17, Joseph '06 ranked 21 | drafted 24, Rivers '08 ranked 8 | drafted 9, Smith '09 ranked 9 | drafted 6, Green '11 ranked 3 | drafted 4) and currently of the players ranked between 18 and 24 CB Banks makes the most sense in my opinion.

Ezekiel Ansah* DE ranked 18th
Sheldon Richardson* DT ranked 19th
Eric Fisher* OT ranked 20th
Sharrif Floyd* DT ranked 21st
Johnthan Banks CB ranked 22nd
Geno Smith QB ranked 23rd
Cordarrelle Patterson* WR ranked 24th

If by some absolute miracle that Geno Smith is available when we make our first pick and we don't take him I'm gonna be pissed.

I'm not sure if LB is the biggest need with Burfict most likely sliding to the middle and Thomas Howard returning from injury. And lets not forget history as Lewis drafted Joseph and Hall in the 1st round in back-to-back years in '06 and '07.

As I said, CB is possible. I have a bigger problem with WR in the 2nd.

I don't even think there's any question to it, the Bengals absolutely need another WR. So there's no doubt that the team has yet to find anyone to lineup up opposite of Green but think of it like this, what would happen, God forbid, if Green were injured and lost for a significant amount of time? Do we honest think Hawkins, Jones, Sanu or Tate would be able to step up and deliver? If they can't do it with Green on the field there is no way in Hell they're going to be able to contribute without him. For that reason alone it's imperative that the Team find another play-maker to not only alleviate the burden on Green but to step in if he's injured. Plus they're playing with 'house money'! The Palmer trade gives the Bengals a pick they otherwise wouldn't have so they can afford to upgrade a position they may not normally have.

Sanu was stepping up and delivering AS A ROOKIE, most WR's can't do that. he got hurt.

If he stays healthy, he'll be a good #2 receiver, and even a decent #1 should something happen to Green. That doesn't mean we need to take the foot off the gas, but another second round wr if/when a better rb prospect is available just doesn't seem right. I'd have to know more about your wr pick there but that just doesn't seem right for us on the surface.

Whether it's a speedy running back or a vertical threat as a wide receiver, we definitely need another weapon on offense.

I'd take a RB in the 2nd 100 times over another WR. Jones and Sanu both showed flashes of what they can do. Drafting another WR would be dumb IMO. That's way down on the list of needs. RB, S, LB, CB, QB, DE all are more important than another WR.

It would have to be a very good WR. Moving Sanu to slot receiver where he would excel. Then we'd have Hawkins and Jones not getting much use though. other areas of need, I agree.

The good teams draft the top talent at top positions. Linebackers can be found in all rounds. The best corners come in the first round - Hands down. Receivers that can stretch the field are often gone within the first 2 rounds. Point being, we can't reach for players just because we have a need (safety, linebacker).... Fill those positions with FAs or value players in the draft and find playmakers in the first two rounds, no matter the position on the field.

WR is just not a need. Agree w/ your premise, but don't draft positions you don't need.

The void at QB will almost certainly cause KC to draft him, unless they like Alex Smith or something.

It's inevitable at this point.

Agreed.... Our fans will eat it up too. I imagine half the stadium will have Te'o jerseys. Just like Rey all over again - Minus the fake girlfriend.
