Not only was it stiff before the game, but he had issues all through the game. No wonder they were able to pull him after 5 even when his count wasn't too high and hadn't been pitching into trouble at that point.

So, the M's are now a game and a half back of Houston again. Weird, but true.

M's won their 6th straight tonight.

They also won their 6th straight 25 years ago on their turn ahead the clock game this was emulating. Also weird but true.

Then why was he pitching?

Problem with it would be they'd have to put him on the DL and noone in Tacoma would be able to start today's game unless they pushed everyone up a day. It's Felix so doubt when he tweaked it they have the balls to instantly put him on the DL to allow one of the guys in Tacoma to come up fresh.

But I do agree, if anyone is hurting they need the day off. They are in a pennant race not just trying to sell tickets.

But 25 years ago was also their arguably most disappointing season in franchise history. So hopefully this doesn't turn out the same.

You’re about 5 years off but know what you meant. They mentioned this fact in the post game show, so history is repeating itself 20 years later.

It won’t fully repeat though, in 1998 they won 76 games and Texas won the division.

One thing I think that was cool is Edgar was a player during the game 20 years ago and now a coach. The only person to be in the dugout for both events.

What’s gonna happen with the Cano situation ? Will they actually play him when he comes back knowing he won’t be available in the post season should they make it ? Do they just release him and save the money ?

Can’t release him and save money. All contracts fully garaunteed

I would say the odds that this question won't work itself out due to injuries or fatigue is nearly zero.

It's a long and grueling season and this team has nearly no depth of any kind. They will FOR SURE need his bat and probably fielding over the stretch run. We have already seen what it looks like with Romine out there.

Yep, crazy. Stros lose 3 of 4 to the rays, have a day off tomorrow, and then back at it against Texas for two games on the road. M's also have a day off tomorrow before getting the Angels at home for 3.

That comfortable lead houston created while the M's were playing boston/ny is all but evaporated.

M's have to take care of business today though.

Already was said, they releasing him doesn't save any money. The can put him on waivers and pray to god some organization will trade for him but doubtful. When Cano comes back he needs to play 1B and DH only. It will be the dog days and with Vogelbach sucking and not platooning with Healy and Cruz always having some nagging injury there is a role for him IMO. The bigger question with Cano is how do you configure the roster, do they DFA Romine or do they send down a releiver when it is the one part of the year where generally you use the bullpen the most.

Will be interesting to see how JD figures out the different options available when Cano returns. Personally, I think the team would do just fine without Cano in any capacity. I sure won't miss him. My biggest concern involves Seager and Zunino. Seager seems to be picking it up a bit- it's about time- half way through the season b4 he starts producing like his salary dictates. But Z is just not cutting it. A bomb once in a while is nice but he needs to start producing base knocks and move runners around. He's great at defense but offense is sucking air. Maybe starts producing? :noidea:

The Mariner's offense has got to start producing the 2nd half post AS break. Keller is a pretty decent pitcher but our guys are just not getting the hits they should be if they're thinking of any post season play. It's not like they are in a slump or anything, it's just they don't string any hits together often enough to be contenders. Our pitching is half ways decent and the offense is half ways decent. Got to be better than "half ways" to go up against NY, Boston or the Stros.

Yeah, being a DH might be the way to go... Kind of a bummer getting him back in the mix and then benching him again should we be playoff bound ...

Looks like Houston is going through the typical slump all teams deal with. Doubt if it will last long. The Mariners haven't run into theirs yet. Those games with NY and Boston were pretty much expected. When ours comes, I hope it doesn't last long. Another nice sweep for the M's Next up? LA and the Rockies-let's keep adding on to the W column.

7 game win streak... Winners of 12 of their last 14 at home... Nice to see them get back to their winning ways... Be nice to see them finish out at least 4-2 before the all star break...
