Seattle Mariners third baseman Kyle Seager plans to continue playing despite having a fractured big toe, saying Friday that "it's not a big deal."

Seager suffered the injury while fouling the ball off his foot during Wednesday's game against the Orioles. He later hit a game-tying home run in the ninth inning.

Third baseman Kyle Seager re-entered the Mariners’ starting lineup on Friday despite what was deemed as an avulsion fracture in his left big toe, suffered on a swing during the second at-bat of the Mariners’ game on Tuesday against the Baltimore Orioles.

He later hit a game-tying two-run home run in the ninth inning despite the injury.

“It’s just something he’s going to have to play with and play through,” Mariners manager Scott Servais said Friday afternoon. “It’s not going to get much worse. Kind of what Dee (Gordon) did. Fortunately the speed game is not a big part of his game. As long as it doesn’t bother him in the batter’s box it will be OK.”

And some updates on other players:

Right-handed reliever Dan Altavilla (strained ulnar collateral ligament) was scheduled to meet with a doctor this weekend to determine whether he could begin throwing.

Servais thought right-handed starter Erasmo Ramirez (right Teres Major strain) would throw a bullpen session either Saturday or Sunday or early next week.

Right-handed starter Hisashi Iwakuma (shoulder debridement surgery) suffered a setback during his latest session against live batting practice pitching in Arizona and visited the original doctor who performed his offseason surgery.

“He just didn’t bounce back from that when he was down in Arizona,” Servais said. “I know he’s going to be down for a few more days before he gets it cranked up again.”

Baseball in a nutshell, Mariners look like WS contenders against the Rays, the Rays look like WS contenders against the Yankees and Astros.
