Most overrated play in MLB history

I completely disagree ... it is about the most overrated play ... Fisk's home run was not diminished by not winning the World Series. It was a great play at a pivotal moment. Nothing should diminish it.

I completely disagree ... it is about the most overrated play ... Fisk's home run was not diminished by not winning the World Series. It was a great play at a pivotal moment. Nothing should diminish it.

It's place in history is overrated.

Exciting play sure, but no way should it be making any top 5 list of greatest plays in baseball history. His team went on to lose the next game and The World Series, and the only memorable thing about it was him waving his arms like a spaz.

You can look through homer glasses all you want, but for me, I'll never see what the big fucking deal was about it.

Joe Carter's WS winning bomb is the real deal, but I'm not sure it gets the attention Fisk's HR gets.. Before they finally won a title in '04, Fisk's homer in game 6 was all Red Sox fans had to cling to. That, and hating Bucky Fucking Dent.

I'll bet more people know of Fisk's homer than they do of Bill Mazeroski's walk off in game 7 of the 1960 World Series.

Honestly, what makes the Fisk walk off homer in game 6 to force a game 7 any better than David Freese's homer in game 6 in 2011 to force game 7?

Freese's homer was hit farther, and the Cardinals went on to beat the Rangers in Game 7, so it wasn't all for naught like the Fisk homer was.

It might be a tad bit overrated, but it is one of the earlier memorable radio play by play sound bites, and The Shot Heard Round the World isn't really known to the casual fan today, but even non baseball fans know about that Fisk homer.

It was at least 470 feet from home plate, and Andruw played more shallow than most, so odds are he's gonna have to make the catch on the run.

And it was a huge moment in the World Series.

It might be a great moment but thats definitely a play that every single CF in baseball today is expected to make as a routine out.

Thats more of a conversation about nostalgia and not a conversation about things being overrated, though.

We certainly don't underrate Freese's contribution. The guy is still selling Imo's Pizza and gets cheers when he comes up to bat and he plays for the Pirates.

From a fundamental standpoint, it wasn't the prettiest World Series I've ever seen, but it was hands down the most exciting prior to last season for me.

Tied the game up and the 9th, and walked it off in the 11th. Dude definitely did his part.

When Chipper retired, there went the last player to win a ring with Atlanta from the game. Now Tim Hudson is retired and Brian McCann plays in the AL, so I guess Martin Prado is the only opposing player that ever gets an ovation in Atlanta.

I think last year's WS is overrated but I'm certainly biased on that one. Without the curse, I think the idea of the young, deep favorites winning after the other team ran out of gas probably doesn't have the same charm but the Game 7 counts as a classic for sure.

With the curse then yeah, its up there with the great all timers but that depends on how much value thats worth.

I think we've been spoiled by great championship games across the board lately in most sports. There are some stinkers here and there but even in most of those there are some terrific games.

A few reasons why Fisks HR is "more memorable"...

1) Fisk is an elite HOFer while Freese is a journeyman.

2) Fisk was playing for the Red Sox, whom EVERYONE either loves or hates (after all, we all know the baseball world revolves around NY and Boston). Freese hit his for some team in fly-over country.
