The answer is Lefty Gomez, who started 5 out of 6 of the first all star games for the AL (1933, 34, 35, 37, 38)

In 1936 it was Lefty...Grove. Same first name nickname, 5 letter last name starting with G lol

More trivia: Gomez was a bad hitter but he did drive in the first run of the first all star game in 1933
