The only pitchers I feel confidant about from that time frame are Mathewson and Ruth. If it isn’t Ruth, I am tapping out.

Looked it up…

Not Ruth. But it is not an unknown pitcher.

Damn I pulled that one out of my ass. I gotta give calsnoskier an assist. i was thinking it happened in the 1800s or something but mentioning Ruth and Mathewson made me throw out Cy.

1903 Cy Young’s Boston Americans (later renamed the Red Sox) beat Honus Wagner’s Pittsburgh Pirates in a best of 9 series. It was a privately arranged deal, they didn’t even do one in 1904. 1905 was the first one where the 2 leagues officially made it a mandatory deal

Of the last 3, one is an All Time Great Hall of Famer, one put up some hall of fame numbers but is not in, one is a hall of very good player who was a good pinch hitter late in his career.

Looks like Mays missed it by about 3 weeks

He turned 20 on May 6, ‘51, but he hit his first MLB HR on May 28
