Just like they tweaked the rookie contracts. They need to tweak this bullshit for QBs. This is just fukin ridiculous.

Why? I can understand having the rookie cap because these guys have not proven anything in the NFL. It is different w/ a star QB - in most cases they have done something on the field to prove their worth (except perhaps someone like Osweiler & I think that was just stupidity).

There are going to be star players in all sports that make the lions share of the money, and not all of them have won championships. This is true in the NBA, MLB, etc. The players negotiated a % of the revenue for the players & that isn't changing so it is not as if fans are going to pay less if you lower salaries (just means owners keep more).

If you are arguing that more money will be available to address other players - well perhaps. However - all teams live by the same rules. It is just a matter of running the team correctly - in the end that is what determines success. I suppose you are advocating a max salary on any given player - good luck w/ that in collective bargaining.

NBA max contract values for 2015-16

BTW - check out NBA contracts - a lot worse & I think that these actually went up. Baseball is even worse. Harper & Trout are probably looking for $500M+ contracts in the very near future. Also - in basketball & baseball this money is guaranteed unlike the NFL.

The Washington Post reports the Redskins have yet to make progress in long-term talks with free agent Kirk Cousins.

That's via "people familiar with the situation." Per reporter Mike Jones, the Redskins are also likely to use the non-exclusive franchise tag on Cousins, allowing him to negotiate with other teams. Cousins has been strongly linked to ex-Redskins OC Kyle Shanahan in San Francisco, but the bombed-out Niners would have to surrender two first-round picks.

Far what players have proven. Yeah, I agree far as the rookies haven't proved anything. I dxon't think Kirk's proved anything to warrant the deal he apparently will get from someone.

LOL - exact opposite take based on the same info. WP is just desperate to drum up fake news.

I removed the Bleacher Report link since it was causing issues - just Google Cousins to see it.

You really want to see him get traded. If that happens I hope that you enjoy very, very long rebuilding periods. Won't happen. He will be in a Redskins uniform next season one way or another.

big surprise there i could have guessed that sitting here in michigan sipping champagne . great reporting mike jones and your super inside sources

KC doesnt have to be in a hurry to sign a deal . its to his benefit to be franchised again and pocket 44 mil in hard currency

so i would say the skins FO , if that is true , is screwing the pooch .

No. I'm just saying its very possible he will get traded. Kyle is crazy enough to make KC the highest paid Qb in the league plus give up two first round picks. You guys said it would never be done. Im just saying its very possible.

And the possibility of us letting it happen is stupid.

BUt if it does happen, you will thump your chest and say "See I was right" then proceed to make mock drafts and at the end of the season wonder how did we end up 4-12 with all the "talent" we brought in?? After all, any one could have done what Kirk did and he doesnt deserve to get paid that kind of money if he cant single-handedly carry the team right??

Although tomorrow the TAG(s) go into effect, expect this to be dragged out. I don't feel so confident about this situation simply because when Kirk COULD have been signed at under 20 mil per, the organization failed to do it.
They failed -- knowing the cap was going to vastly improve. It doesn't help that the media is making this look personal AND John Lynch has publicly said a rookie QB may not be the best move for Kyle's offense.
If the Skins blow the QB situation, they BETTER install the 2000 Baltimore Ravens defense via FA & the draft.

Very true. However - there is another way of looking at this. The very fact that they didn't extend him last season probably has a big impact on this whole process. I think that it is very possible that last offseason this entire decision was in the hands of SM. There is no way this is true at the current time given various reports and the comments from Allen. For better or worse I think that the big thing here is that it appears that Snyder wants to retain Cousins.

I think that this latest report is just the WP trying to draw attention to themselves. We shall see.

Very possible? So some reporter throws out a rumor (that it totally counter to all reports coming from Redskins Park) & now this is "very possible"? Sounds like wishful thinking on your part. It also sounds like this is all just part of your need to be rt about things & an apparent disdain for athletes who make a lot of money.

Again - who freaking cares what Shanahan & the 49ers think - the Redskins are in control here (at least for this season).

BTW Dean - so what happens if the next QB (who may be considered the savior) screws up in some key games? Do you also release or trade that guy? It happens to just about all QBs - even the ones making tons of money. You can't keep looking for the absolute perfect QB - this could take another 20 years.

No b/c the next Qb will not be the highest paid Qb in the league.

Dude you are sometimes like a 5 year old on a sugar high constantly asking why even though you actually know the answer to the question.

The fact that Cousins had talent around him in no way means that we can insert any QB and they will do just as good or better than Cousins did. Deep down you know that concept is Bull.

Just because we MIGHT get two first rounders for him does not make it a sound course of action to try, again deep down you know its a stupid course of action.

Just as deep down you know that what Kirk gets paid, will be an afterthought in a year or two.. but if we do deal him and we are again searching for a QB while he is doing good in San Fran... most of the people screaming we should deal him will be the first to point out how stupid we were to trade him.
