the one thing about major junior hockey is that they leave nothing on the table.

That's why it's such a fun game to watch (but that's a scary stat puck).

/aside: Congrats to Tigers forward Linden Vey on winning the WHL scoring race (edged out Tyler Johnston of the Spokane Chiefs by one point). The Kings may have found a diamond in the 4th round.

I believe Vey was the leading scorer in the entire CHL this year too. Not often that the leader comes out of the Dub.

Congrats to Vey. I do think if Ryan Johansen had played the full season he would have won the scoring title though.

He would have had to go on quite a tear. Only missed 9 games and still came up 24 points short. The one I'm looking at is Brenden Shinnimin. Missed 12 games all due to suspension and scored 96 points in 60 games. Take his ppg over 72 and he's at 115 points. Vey had 116. Would have made things interesting to say the least.

Hmm. 9 games at three points per game is 27. That would do it. Considering all the talent Johansen plays with he would have had a shot. Odds are he would've come up short but it would be close.

WHL tops NHL in head trauma stakes - The Globe and Mail

scary for the kids. on 22 teams vs 30, too.

I guess this statistic is a partial result of that.

Very true. It's exciting to watch, but I wouldn't want to see a player's career end before it really even starts.

BTW Go Portland Winterhawks! Going to Game 1 this saturday.

I don't hold out too much hope for my Giants this year.
they have just been sooo damned streaky.

who the hell knows in round one though.
The last game between the two, TriCities killed us 5-1, the game before that we beat them 5-0. they also beat us 9-1 earlier in the year.

Chiefs are looking good to make a run in the playoffs, but wow what a tough run they'd have. Most likely gotta beat Tri-City, then Portland, then either Saskatoon, Red Deer or Medicine Hat to win the league. Not impossible, but that would be very tough. It'll be fun to see how the playoffs unfold.

Darcy Kuemper (Red Deer) has pretty strong numbers.
933 sv%, 1.85 GAA

pretty big gap between him and the rest.

I'd agree with that. The gap is so huge it's hard to consider anyone else as being better. After him I'd have to say that Adam Brown for Kelowna is pretty damn good. Kelowna is going to be a very tough out this year (they'll be Portland's 2nd round matchup if there are no upsets).

Here's a link to the goalie stats from this season. Everyone except for #18 and #20 is in the playoffs.

That's where their run ends my friend

Should be a great match if it happens, but you never know in the playoffs. It's been a great game each time they have met this season, so I'll definitely be going to at least one of those games, yet again if it happens, and if I can even get tickets. Several Portland games have been sold out this season.

He's not the best goalie, but I think he's got the best name - Tyler Bunz of the Medicine Hat Tigers.

Damn, Tyler must have been a popular pick fora boys name 16- 21 years ago!! It seems like they are all over the place.

I dont remember what thread it was in ... i think it was one about concussions and head shots and the need to ban fighting ... and I said if people want to get political they need to start hammering on the CHL about banning fighting because doing it in the NHL isnt the place to start ... Blob has a good article about the need to do something abut the culture of junior hockey. The WHL also had a crazy amount of fighting majors this year
