I've watched the show and actually drank some shine a couple nights ago. Some apple pie stuff, pretty good.

I'm actually going to buy some of the apple pie this weekend and give it a try.

That's gotta be the first run stuff cuz that's basically pure alcohol. From what I know and have had, no one drinks that. The best stuff is anywhere from 100 to 120. Strong enough to knock you on your ass but you can actually taste stuff. Anything higher and its all burn.

Yeah, it was, they actually marked the jars after they filled them and said that jars 2 and 3 are usually your high-end stuff. I don't know how, but I guess some people actually prefer it that strong. The last vid is long, but shows how they make moonshine from beginning to end.

A guy makes it about 10 miles from my home here in NC. They bust him every other month but he keeps on making it. I've had several jars of shine. A buddy who I used to camp with from Georgia brought some cherry laced shine once that was fantastic. But if you want a legit brand just go to the liquor store and get Junior Johnson(The race car guy) Midnight Moon. The apple pie is awesome!

Reading this thread inspired me to give this a try. I give it two thumbs up. Good stuff. I only drink hard liquor at holidays anymore, mostly because I couldn't take the hangovers as I got older. I got to say great flavor and nice smooth burn going down.

Country? You think you need a ton of land or something? If you're just making it for yourself you could make it in your basement/garage fairly easily.

Its not difficult to make shine..but not easy to make GREAT shine. The biggest thing is to know what is running and at what precise temperatures. The first running is technically methanol (distilled at about 150F)....and is really not good for you at all, some say it will even make you go blind. Running it back through the process a second (XX) or third time (XXX) raises the alcohol and/or improves the taste. I have heard that some people actually filtering it (similar to whisky) to further remove impurities.

Good shine everywhere. But nothing beats shine from Appalachia (VA, NC, TN, KY)...where it all began.

My roommate brought normal and apple flavored moonshine back from Kentucky this summer. Pretty good. He draws lines on the jar for where the level of moonshine is so I cant sneak any sips. lol

I've had some. My old brick mason got me a jar, had a peach down in the bottom of it. Sadly, it ended up killing him, drinking and walking, he walked out into traffic drunk. Troy and Son's as mentioned above makes what amounts to shine, but legally. Been to their "factory" and sampled some. Pretty good.
