Goldman kind of had a bad pro day, but watching the tape on him, he can play. He can slip right on down to 32.

Anyone think NE targets a LB early? looks that way to me.

If there is a good OL to be had they go that way first at 32. But yeah, they need to key in on o-line, LB, and CB.

There may be more cornerbacks available in the 1st round than takers. If one of the desirable CB's drop to 32, we take him. That is of course if the Pats consider him valuable.
There are a lot of good O-linemen available in 2nd and 3rd rounds.
I appears that at 32in the 1st, we are going to wait to see who drops. If somebody gets taken off the board and leaving another team no value pick, we might trade up for an impact player. This would not surprise at all because there are not a lot of 1st round quality players that will be left at 32. (duh) and we have more picks than needed?

IMO there is really only one guy I would take in the 1st and that is AJ Cann from South Carolina. Big physical (6'3, 313) OG who can handle his own and then some. Kind of reminds me of Mankins. I would have no issue with him at 32 is all other options fail. He could fall out of the 1st rd, but wont get to far into the 2nd rd. Others I like are:

Tre' Jackson OG 3 Florida State Sr 6-4 330 2-3- Reminds me of Brian Waters
Arie Kouandjio OG 5 Alabama rSr 6-5 310 3- Saban guy, big, physical.
Jamil Douglas OG 10 Arizona State rSr 6-4 304 5-6- Absolute beast!!! Love this kid.
Josue Matias OG 7 Florida State Sr 6-5 309 3-4- 4 yr starter at OG, played next to Stork
Bobby Hart OG 21 Florida State Sr 6-5 329- 4 yrs starter who moves around. Could be a nice late rd pick.

NE could easily handle that OG issue in this draft for the next 5 yrs. Would love to see them get the combination of Cann/Douglas or Jackson/Douglas (both met with NE @ the combine, Jackson in town for a pvt workout)

Only CB I like in Rd 1 are: Waynes, Johnson, Peters. Peters IMO is clearly the best one of the group, but he has a hot head and got kicked off the team. Johnson is another one I like, he played vs some good comp, but I also think he is a hot head. I know NE has Johnson in for a work out this week. So he could slide to 32, but not sure I pull the trigger on him. I think there is some decent value in the 2nd rd. Few more I like:

Eric Rowe CB 6 Utah Sr 6-1 205 2. Big physical CB who can move to S if need be. Not much film on him, but he likes to hit!
Quinten Rollins CB 7 Miami (Ohio) rSr 5-11 195 2. This is the guy I want. Only played 1 yr of college football, and that was last yr, his SR yr. He was the starting PG for his BBall team. In his 1st yr, he only went on to record over 70 tackles, 6+ picks and win DPOY in his conference. Not bad for only 1 yr and learning to play one of the hardest positions in football. This is a BB guy! Showed leadership by being the PG on his team. Shows he has the smarts to learn how to play CB, and the talent to be the best in his conference doing it. If you are going to jump on someone this yr, here is the guy.
Ifo Ekpre-Olomu

CB 15 Oregon Sr 5-9 192 3-4 Should be much higher on this list, but injuries kept him off it. Great value in the later rds.

Then again, you all know Haden will be in NE next yr, so we can skip CB talk...LOL

I've seen a few mock drafts that have the Pats getting Cann.

No defensive backs under 6 feet tall........................please!!!!! Average height of WR is now at 6'1" and these small guys have problems with them. Going up against the 6'4" and 6'5" guys like Meagatron is asking way too much.

Not too many are over 6 feet at least the ones who appear at the top of the list.

I don't want to see another CB who can't get on the field except for nickel and dime.
There will likely only be 2 CB's taken in first round (IMHO). After the 1st round, we have to take risks with upside to get someone who can contribute on 3 downs.....

You are right Ken, not many that will be available to NE. Kind of what I like Rowe, plays big too. Have you watched film on Rollins? Kid is an absolute freak. Butler is not that tall and he was able to make some plays by being able to jump high. When your in position and don't get beat, you don't have to be 6'2.

Butler is 6'. He can also jump. I have to guess his vertical is somewhere near 30".

I'm mentally preparing myself for a long year of bend but don't break defense. Man that is so painful to watch.

From Mike Reiss of the Boston Globe...4/8/2015

The New England Patriots will use one of their 30 allotted pre-draft visits on Southern Cal tight end Randall Telfer. The information was first reported by Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun and National Football Post, and since was independently confirmed.

Telfer is the second known prospect scheduled to visit the team, along with Florida State guard Tre' Jackson.

Former USC tight end Randall Telfer is likely a mid-rounds consideration for the Patriots.

As we've been doing throughout the pre-draft process, when a visit or private workout is confirmed, the idea is to get to know the prospect a bit more, just as the club is doing.

So who is Telfer?

He is 6-foot-3¾ and 250 pounds, enters the draft after his senior season and has already received his bachelor's degree while currently working toward a master's degree. He's considered a combination tight end -- effective as a blocker and capable as a pass-catcher in the short to intermediate areas -- who has also shown up on special teams (three blocked field goals). Telfer was a captain at Southern Cal, is viewed to have off-the-charts intangibles and is considered a mid-to-late-round consideration.

One reason the Patriots might be using one of their 30 visits on Telfer is to check on his health. He underwent surgery six weeks ago for a foot fracture sustained late last season and hasn't been able to work out for teams in the pre-draft process.

When a team brings a player in for a pre-draft visit, getting a medical update is often the primary purpose so the team can have the most updated information possible.

So back to the DL for a min. I do like Goldman, but I think he is moving up the board. The next guy for me, and he reminds me of Easley is Michael Bennett from OSU. Not sure why he is not a lower 1, or high 2nd rd pick. Might have something to do with is size. IDK, kid seems very powerful and quick of the line. Check him out...PLUS he is an Urban guy...BB fav!

Rollins is 5"11, so that 1 inch is not that big of a deal. Revi$ was not very tall. It comes down to position and are you able to make a play. These guys are suck freaks now, they can jump out of the building. Check him out. Remember when watching this, he only has 1 yr of college football under his belt.

Great article. I liked all of it but one thing....NO to including Garoppolo in the trade.

Well this was written before the Bradford to Clev rumor deal. I would have to assume they would need to make room for Bradford contract, restructure him and all that shit. I thought Dobson and Mayo in that deal was interesting. Then again, I can see BB unloading JG for him, I mean what has Jimmy done, and when will he actually play?

Anything is possible. I think Belichick already has been making moves and talking to teams very quietly. He doesn't want anything getting out until the deals are done. Other teams want the same. I'm watching the Eagles very closely. Chip Kelly has been given total control of that team and moving players in and out doesn't seem to phase him at all. He's got a one tracked mind and he'll do whatever it takes to achieve his goal.

If the Browns wanted Garrapolo for Haden, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Nobody wanted Brady in 2000. Slow, not the best physical QB and there were much bigger headliners..........How many taken before #199 are still around. How many are automatic HOF first vote??

Finding another young, smart QB would be a challenge but if BB was to trade JG, I'm sure he'd have a 6th or 7th rounder just waiting for his call.

I agree Ken. I think Philly is in this somehow also. Maybe the wheels are turning to much.....My thinking was Bradford gets traded to Clev for one of their xtra first rd picks. Philly now has the picks to move up ahead of NYJ and if need be the Titans to get MM. Then Clev comes back to NE for their 1st and send Haden on over. Might be along shot, but I really think that something is going to happen. I honestly don't think it will happen until Mayo has his physical and then hope to restructure.
