What about the writers? What do you think about the *FACT* that they knew exactly what was going on, and were in those locker rooms every day and at those training camps every spring? How about the *FACT* that they saw all of that and said nothing, until Barry Bonds started destroying records? Until they realized how much money they could make blowing the lid off the story? All the book deals and all the webpage hits.
The writers' job is to be the conduit between the players and the fans. To tell us what's going on. They failed at their jobs far worse than anyone in this whole mess. Hell, any fan with half a brain knew what was going on too, but didn't care because it was exciting, and after all, this is just entertainment. Nobody wants admit that blame lies equally with all parties, and just accept that it happened and move on. That's it's part of the game's history and you can't rewrite history.
And now, the writers sit in judgment of the behavior they condoned.
I have stated and will state again, that, the whole problem of steroids was catapulted into a cult status when the hypocrites in our media saw that Barry Bonds their nemesis has been roped in by BALCO investigation. I had a long argument on this at the ESPN Giants forum with another poster. Prior to that they yawned each time PED was mentioned in 1994 with McGwire and Canseco and in 1998 with McGwire. They became McGwire's cheerleader until after Bonds was roped in. After Bonds has been chewed, spat out and relegated into the dustbin of history by insisting that all his achievements even prior to the alleged cut-off of steroids use, 1999, were fraudulent they quietly allowed steroids use to be footnotes to baseball history. They no longer bring opprobrium to a baseball player the way they did to Barry Bonds.
It is no longer scary to hear about steroids use by athletes. It is only the writers who can bring unbearable pressure to the owners, union but who cares? They do not hate these players the same way they hate that egotistical, ass.hole, Barry Bonds. Not that his color has anything to do with it, they are the first to tell you that.
