Rangers, veteran Chargois agree to minors deal

Veteran reliever JT Chargois, who went 3-1 with a 2.23 ERA for Miami and Seattle last season, reached a minor league deal with the Rangers.
This one might be the biggest head-scratcher of the off season for me as well as the non-move of the Mariners that pissed me off the most. I see some of the ridiculous amounts of money being thrown at mediocre pitchers and then I consider Chargois' last four years:
2021 - 56 games/2.52 ERA/1.08 WHIP
2022 - 22 games/2.42 ERA/0.94 WHIP
2023 - 46 games/3.61 ERA/1.25 WHIP
2024 - 36 games/2.23 ERA/1.02 WHIP

Based on the stats above, I don't understand why this guy had to settle for a minor league contract. As far as I know, he is healthy and ready to start spring training on time.
Also, via arbitration, it was estimated that the Mariners could have re-signed him for only 1.75 million.

I was shocked when they released him and still shocked they didn't reup him. Not only cheap and affective, they had to give something up to get him. Loss on all fronts.

Bregman getting $40 million a year. Good grief. This isn't the same guy that was a 40-homer guy pre-CoVid. Red Sox are the eastern seaboard version of the Angels. They know how to piss money away.

This is what confuses me. Bregman doesn’t get them close to as good as Baltimore and I’d still take the Yankees over them. The Rays are the Rays so they could be really good or tank and the Blue Jays are in an all in season

And Devers pulls a Jeter and refuses to move off of third base even though Bregman is the reigning gold glove.

That would be great. Then that opens up a couple of trade options with Boston that don’t include Castillo or one of the major league starters.

@wazzu31 interesting comments about deferred money. Opposite of how I thought it would be seen by players/owners.

From the owners perspective deferring money doesn’t make sense either unless your just deferring on the hopes of either selling the team or getting a massive new media deals or sponsorship deal.

I still think it is idiotic for a player to defer money. $40 million a year in 2027 is worth a lot more than $10 million a year in 31,32,33 and 34. I get the taxes and excuse but then FA would just take less money to come to the rescue income tax free states

Ya I don't get at all why the players are insisting on it. I get the owners side.

A’s, Luis Urias agree to deal

Free agent infielder Luis Urias has a locker set up in the Athletics’ clubhouse, reports Martin Gallegos of MLB.com. It’s not clear what kind of deal the Wasserman client has agreed to, but it seems he’ll be signing on with the A’s organization for the upcoming season.

Not really sure how you can put the Dodgers dude at number 1. What shrewd trade or gem in the draft he has made? I mean he has done 100% better with an open checkbook than Jerry did in LA but I bet there are 15 GM’s who would love to tell their stat nerds to sit in a corner while he just spends money

That's the difference is the open checkbook Jerry fumbled away and wasting one of the best players in baseball vs Dodgers GM hitting on his open checkbook and winning a WS. The Nats GM is higher up than Jerry and they blew up the entire franchise, been one of the worst products on the field but have some young guys starting to look good. That's a very bad look for Jerry who is wasting away this rotation with making bad trades and not much in return. In his only defense he can thank the FO for the lack of funds to bring in FA's but going by his history he still might have fumbled it.
