Rangers, veteran Chargois agree to minors deal

Veteran reliever JT Chargois, who went 3-1 with a 2.23 ERA for Miami and Seattle last season, reached a minor league deal with the Rangers.
This one might be the biggest head-scratcher of the off season for me as well as the non-move of the Mariners that pissed me off the most. I see some of the ridiculous amounts of money being thrown at mediocre pitchers and then I consider Chargois' last four years:
2021 - 56 games/2.52 ERA/1.08 WHIP
2022 - 22 games/2.42 ERA/0.94 WHIP
2023 - 46 games/3.61 ERA/1.25 WHIP
2024 - 36 games/2.23 ERA/1.02 WHIP

Based on the stats above, I don't understand why this guy had to settle for a minor league contract. As far as I know, he is healthy and ready to start spring training on time.
Also, via arbitration, it was estimated that the Mariners could have re-signed him for only 1.75 million.

I was shocked when they released him and still shocked they didn't reup him. Not only cheap and affective, they had to give something up to get him. Loss on all fronts.

Bregman getting $40 million a year. Good grief. This isn't the same guy that was a 40-homer guy pre-CoVid. Red Sox are the eastern seaboard version of the Angels. They know how to piss money away.
