Not shocked, but I am wondering if we could've gotten Reyes for Gary Brown. And if we did, would he play 2B. Sign Oxy to a three year deal and we're set.

Nice idea.

would you trade Gary Brown for Stanton now that hes unhappy?

Once today, and twice tomorrow.

Would Miami?

Not a chance in hell.

We would have to put together Brown, Panik and Hembree. We may need to up Hembree into Crick to get that one done.

And I would still consider it.

I would give up Brown and Crick for Stanton. And the Fish might bite on that.

Coletti's phone must have been off.....

Pipe dream, but that would be awesome if the Giants could pry away Stanton.

Thank God that trade went to the AL. The Marlins are a BS franchise.

Agreed with the above.

So, filo, what is this vCash that has just appeared on everyone's avatar? Is this rep redux?

Never mind, I found it. I guess we can now gamble on SportsHoopla.

Absolutely, and I'd give up a lot to get him too. The guy is a stud.

Pagan - CF
Scutaro - 2B
Stanton - LF
Posey - C
Sandoval - 3B
Pence - RF
Belt - 1B
Crawford - SS

Ok, ok, I've woken up now. Sorry for the distraction folks. ;)

Better than my Bonifacio idea in the other thread. IF Reyes wasn't an asshole. Maybe he buys in with the rings... and if he watched any of the Series to see the vacuum currently at short.

Thank you sir! Although, I probably should have said the Marlins Ownership/Management Group is BS, not the franchise.

Yeah, I haven't really gotten into that yet. I may check it out.

Holy shit, that trade keeps getting bigger as the day goes by. Reyes, Johnson, Buehrle, Buck...

100M to 16M in less than 12 months. Despicable.

Well, that's the way the Marlin's management rolls. They did something very similar in 1997 and 2003 (playing deep-pocket yankees for a season, then selling everything off after the season). But this time they didn't get a ring out of it. Heck, they probably got something better : a brand new stadium (and parking lots) where they suckered the city & county into paying most of the cost.

Now they'll most likely spend a few years doing what they do best : developing young talent that they either drafted or got in blockbuster trades while keeping payroll low and filling pockets with piles of money acquired via profit sharing.

Smart business (definitely short term). Stupid PR (could change things long term). I don't think Loria cares much about PR (in general).

There is no one in our system that I would say is off-limits in a Stanton trade. Brown and Panik likely have ceilings of solid starters, and I would give that up in a second for an established young super-star.

While I like Crick, he is still a few years away and anything can happen. I would part with him a quicker second to get a guy like Stanton.

Stanton isn't likely to be traded this off-season : he's exactly what the Marlins want : great production at little cost. He's still not arb eligible (2.118) so if the Marlins stay true to form he won't get flipped until next off-season *at the earliest* (and he may be there to start 2014 if they can get him to sign for <$3M for '14).

Note that this past season is typical in that the Marlin's had guys with cheap early salaries and big raises in the future and got the cheap years out of the players and are letting some other team pay the high salaries.

Johnson's last year under contract : $13.75M (about = to sum of 1st SIX years' salary)
Reyes 1st year : $10M, to be $22M by end of contract
Buehrle : 7M (2012)/12M/19M/20M
Bell : $7M(12)/10M/10M

The Marlins back loading all their contracts from last offseason really make me think that this was their plan all along. What a POS of a franchise, no fan base, terrible owners, awful stadium until they got this new one, which is closer to a strip club than a ballyard that was paid for by the public which now they refuse to field a competitive team for. They should force a sale of the Marlins then move them to Charlotte or Portland or wherever and let the Rays move into the Miami ballpark (I know, I know...).

Whatever it takes to get it done.

I'll even throw in my vcash to sweeten the deal.
