There are certainly structural hurdles to overcome.

I still love it.
Steelers suck at drafting DBs
Steelers need DBs.
Minkah is an excellent slot CB, FS
Minkah comes cheap as hell for 3 years. Important with how much money is on Pitts books.
Steelers arent giving up on the season, and just signaled huge confidence in Mason.
Even if they had a top 10npock, they might be drafting hoping to get a Minkah anyway.
Minkah is a leader. Need that.
Having a field-general type FS makes everyone's job easier. CB, SS & LBers all should benefit. I've been sayin that for years... Look at what Earl Thomas did for the LOB for years. Dude was irreplaceable in that defense.Hopefully, excellent play at FS will make Edmunds job easier, too.
Maybe seeing some overall improvement at both safety spots.
They are both second year players. They can grow together. Though one needs a lot more growing than the other.
If you used that pick next year (I'm assuming it will be a middle of the to end of the round pick) for a guy as good as Minkah you'd be thrilled so the move looks good to me
Unreal amount of investments... But remember, his name is Keith Tomlin. On a related note:
DL:
Cam Heyward 1st
Stephon Tuitt 2nd
Javon Hargrave 3rd
LB:
TJ Watt 1st
Bud Dupree 1st
Devin Bush 1st
Mark Barron 1st
DB:
Minkah Fitzpatrick 1st
Terrell Edmunds 1st
Joe Haden 1st
Steven Nelson 3rd
8 straight first round draft picks dedicated to the Defense, plus high profile FA acquisitions to bolster it.
If that Cockatorium Keith Butler can't produce with this defense, and soon, it's time to give him directions out of town.
Just throwing this out there...On a related note:

True. I'm just counting current starters.Add in Burns as another 1st rounder. Either the scouting, the coaching, or both are at fault but there is no excuse this defense should give up 30+ a game.
I am not a fan of this trade at all and I hope I am wrong. Could Colbert and Tomlin be making a last ditch effort to salvage the season and save their jobs.
Like I said, I am not a fan at all of the trade and worry this team will still struggle to win more than 5 games. I fear they just gave away a top 10 pick but at least there appears to be value in Fitzpatrick for the future.
THREE things that are very important to note here...
Never been a big fan of that guy.
