If he keeps up his pace, he should win it IMO. He'll probably be more valuable than a guy like Altuve who's played practically the entire season, basing it off of WAR. I mean it's pretty insane he's tied for 6th in MLB in WAR and he's only played 69 games.

I'd be curious if there's ever been an MVP who has only played around 120 games or so.

Basing it off WAR, I doubt Trout catches him. At this pace, if he played in all of the remaining 48 games for the Angels, he'll finish with a WAR of 8.6. Altuve has 50 games remaining and is on pace for a 9.2 WAR.

In a 162-game schedule, the fewest games played for an MVP winner (obviously not including pitchers) was 117 by George Brett in 1980. Which is exactly how many Trout would have if he played in every game until the end of the season.

I"m not sure but I know Miggy played 119 games a few years ago, won the batting title with a .338 clip and led the league in OBP as well and finished 11th in the MVP race.

I seriously doubt Trout can do it, but if anyone can it's him, I just think Altuve has been too good this year, I think Judge is almost already out of contention, .300 and leading the league in Home Runs isn't going to win you MVP when guys like Trout and Altuve are around.

It probably didn't help with some voters that his power numbers were down in 2015 (his ISO was the lowest of his career and he had "only" 18 home runs) and that the Tigers were never really a playoff contender that year (Angels are under .500, but they're only a few games out of a Wild Card spot). Trout has a triple slash line of .343/.464/.710 and a 215 OPS+. That OPS+ is probably the highest since Barry Bonds. Trout's been an insanely good player so far, but his offensive stats this year are in another stratosphere.

It would be the highest since Bonds. Harper had a 198 in 2015 that is currently the highest since then. Only Bonds and McGwire have an OPS+ higher than 215 in the last 50 years.

Yea the 18 HR, 76 RBI from Cabrera that year probably hurt his case big time in the minds of the voters. Trout's got 23 HR and 52 RBI with 48 games remaining, so it wouldn't be surprising to see him with 35 HR and close to (if not more than) 90 RBI by the end of the season.

currently batting a career best .293/.449/.644 (195 wRC+) despite having a BABIP (.299) well below his career average (.352). Currently second in the majors in WAR (4.0) just behind Mookie (4.1). Mookie's wRC+ is 20 points higher though.

Couldn't believe Saturday was the first time he ever had a 5 hit game. Happy to see him leave the Bronx!

Trout is the best player of this generation. Kinda sucks he plays for the Angels. Really don't get much west coast coverage for any team other than the Dodgers since I'm usually in the bed when they play, and Ohtani gets more coverage than Trout.

Can someone explain why Manfred is more concerned about changing the game than actually promoting the LeBron James of baseball?

I was at the game at Comerica Park ... the Angels were down 9-2 bottom of the 9th with two outs and Trout crushed it to left-center ... Ohtani never played, I was disappointed, but Trout is amazing!!! If Trout was on the Yankees or Red Sox he'd already be in the Hall of Fame.

If he stays healthy, he's a lock for the HOF.

just needs 10 seasons at this point IMO. Just going by WAR, he's at 59.0. 60 WAR seems to be the cutoff line for HOFers and 59.3 fWAR (or 59.0 going by BB-Ref) through ~7.5 seasons is pretty amazing. So long as he reaches the minimum 10 seasons, his peak should be more than enough to get him in. There's a very good case for him being the best player in baseball for 5 seasons (not including his injury shortened 2017).

Which is fucking stupid. Guy's gonna be cutting sushi within five years.

He's a good player, it'll be interesting to see how he does in the second half when the teams have a real book on him.

But he's either gonna be a pitcher or a hitter. I don't think doing both is sustainable, and him doing both is keeping him out of the lineup too many games.

If during the off-season, you'd have told me that into June, I'd have a real chance of losing our yearly bet, I'd have thought you'd gone back to your ultra-homer days on FN.

Fuck an A, man! You've got to be pretty excited. Bummer about Acuna.

It's been fun so far, don't know how long it will last, but I'm enjoying it while it does last.

If we don't get some bullpen help, I really don't see how we can keep up. All of our starters are essentially the same guy. None of them are an ace, but for the most part, they go around 6 and keep us in the game, and that's fine, but this bullpen drives me crazy.

But what I'm most excited about is that we could be buyers instead of sellers at the deadline(don't expect nothing crazy, just a couple of bullpen arms, Herrera from KC and Brad Hand for SD are who I'm eyeballing)

But with Acuna, considering what happened, the diagnosis was the best case scenario. Sprained ligament and a back contusion. He'll be out for a couple weeks, not months or the rest of the season, so I really feel we dodged a bullet there. When he went down, I had flashbacks to Chipper tearing his ACL.

Cry me a fucking river, Outlaw.

Indians' bullpen ERA: 6.06

Well, you have help on the way with Andrew Miller, right?

I was saying that AJ Minter would be our closer of the future if he would stop walking so many batters. Well, he's stopped walking batters, and now he's getting lit up like a Christmas tree.

But Craig Kimbrel is coming back next year. I think.
