Leake for Mella and Duvall

Who makes room for Leake on the 25-man?

Assuming there is not another trade in the wings, I think there are 3 possibilities...

1) THud gets DFA'd. I am not a fan of this option, but I would not be shocked at this point.
2) Biggie gets DFA'd. With Vogey doing well in the pen, is Petit needed anymore?
3) Strickland goes to Sacto. This may be a temporary move just while they settle things out. I would be surprised by this, but it is on the table, I think.

Ultimately, I think it is time to move on from Huddy. He earned his money last year alone, so he was still a good FA signing, but there is a roster crunch now, and everyone else offers value. Unfortunately, he does not.

Hudson.

This pushes him out of the rotation, and I really don't see him as a bullpen guy. It's a tough business sometimes.

Appropriate, then, that his last win (v. Oakland) was the last he needed to defeat every MLB team.

Man, sometimes I hate that it's a business. I would hate to see Huddy go. It would almost seem classless. He already announced that this is his last season. Just let him finish it out with us. His experience could come in handy in September and October. Let's at least give him a shot to show whether or not he can be effective from the pen before we cut him.

THud can help us. In September. He has not shown he can be all that productive so far this season, and he has gotten worse as the season progresses.

Yeah, cold and heartless. But he hasn't been a Giant long. Not like BT.

Strickland's been too good to send back down to AAA, so it's gotta be between Huddy and Petit. My heart says keep Huddy, but my head knows that Petit is an established bullpen arm. If Huddy goes, I hope we bring him back in September. Chances are that no one claims him, right?

No chance he is claimed if he is, in fact, DFA'd.

Another possibility is that we trade him the the Braves, paying his whole tab, so he can retire with them. Right thing to do for him, doesn't hurt us, creates good will with the Braves...

Possibly, but he could always just sign a 1-day contract with them next year, then retire. He may want to be around the team for the stretch drive and contribute any way he can.

Maybe Petit get's DL'd for a bit.

Speaking of people to get DL'd, when will this happen with Pagan?

Growing up a Giants fan, I always hated the Braves because they were so good. They really should've won multiple WS's in the '90s.

Does he have to? Arias was DFA'd for Aoki.

I wasn't even talking about a roster space decision. It's just that I've kept hearing for weeks that there is something wrong with Pagan physically.

My thought process was that when Aoki came back, Pagan would hit the DL to rest his legs and back, so they could delay a decision on who to remove off the roster. Apparently Pagan is good enough to go, so I doubt he's headed to the DL, unless something flares up.

I would LIKE to keep Huddy, but I NEED to keep Strickland in the bully. Petit has been a highly proven long reliever and is still youthful enough to know he has a good chance to sustain production over the course of the next few years. We all KNOW that this is Huddy's last season.

If I'm the powers that be, sore shoulder, 15-day DL. At the end of 15 days, if there is a spot in the pen or a starter needs to be skipped in the rotation, we have him ready to go. Anytime there is a spot needed, he's back on the DL, so he can ride out the rest of the season on the bench with his team and not have the embarrassment of being a guy that ends his career, having been DFA.

I am an Adam Duvall fan but realized he didn't have a chance at starting in San Francisco. I thought it would have been nice to have carried him on the bench for his power. Best of luck to him in Cincinnati. Interesting that Chris Dominguez was with the Reds earlier and was recently DFA'd, despite decent numbers (even if a small sample size).

As for Mella, I wasn't necessarily sold on him being the crop of the pitching prospects crop, or close to the top for that matter. I think we have quite a few pitchers in the farm system that will be ready in the next couple of years.

I like the idea of Mike Leake pitching for the team. Hope he does well and we can re-sign him, if the amount is decent.
