As much bagging that we pens fans take during the FSN broadcasts during the season for Steiggy's horrible PBP, it is night and day when you listen to the quality of Lange's work. I wish more fans of other teams had an opportunity to hear him. He truly is one of a kind. Any chance i get, I mute the volume on the TV, and listen to the free streaming audio on the Pens website to hear him.

yeah, he like alliteration...he has a story behind each however...most involve people he meets at local bars giving him ideas. personal favorite is "Hop in the Cordova baby! The bingo game is ready to rolllll"

Oh, you know how it rubs off on people after a while. Hell, he's been broadcasting in Pittsburgh since the 70's. I can pick people out all the time out here in california with that pittsburgh accent. It's sticks out like a sore thumb.

ew.. pens announcers.. lange has an awesome voice, and does a great job most of the time.. but his goal call's drive me nuts.. 'scratch my back with a hacksaw'? seriously?.. the rented mule one is alright.. but they get old to me..

and i dont know how you can say errey is alright most of the time.. the pens announcers are among the worst to listen to IMO.. boston is up there cause edwards is a physco path.. but single worst announcer is craig laughlin in washington.. terrible voice and the BIGGEST homer-idiot out there.. i wish someone would sew his lips together

never had a problem w/ the buffalo guys.. they seem very neutral whenever i listen to them

sharks are my favorite or maybe they just had a good night haha.. the one night i've watched them they were freakin hilarious.. after darroll powe was introduced the color guy kept saying 'POW!' after everything the pxp guy said.. and i like doc as a PxP guy.. his ridiculously over the top vocabulary makes me laugh

.. i watch 90% of the games online cause i'm out of market.. and comcast is sweet so 99% of the time its the other teams feed.. in case you were wondering why i have so many different inputs haha

lange has begun to use the same ones over and over again...i think it's really just the first one that pops into his head. as i said earlier, each has some weird story. there are some he RARELY uses anymore. the game i play is 'guess the lange-sim!' after each goal...i'm rarely right.

As he has tried to "keep up" his repertoire of sayings, his material has kinda run thin and some of it is kinda contrived now...

but his older sayings are classic, such as:

He beat him like a rented mule
Scratch my back with a hacksaw
Michael, Michael, Motorcycle
He should get 5 to 10 for that save
Buy Sam a drink and get his dog one, too
The turkey's on the table (start of a powerplay)

and his goal sayings aside, he is a solid PBP man, matching the action and excitement on the ice with his words and inflections. He had to be as he was able to hone his skills as the simulcast TV and radio guy for well over a decade.
