That is the worst one ever right there, without question
Yes. 7/$161m for guy who became totally useless practically overnight. He did have a decent 2016 in the first year of that deal, then he just lost it. It’s hard to find any contract even close. I’m not sure why they haven’t cut him at this point? I guess the O’s don’t know much about sunk cost.

-6.3 WAR in his last 4 seasons. His best WAR over that span is -0.6. Take out his 2013 and 2015 seasons and he'd have a career WAR of -0.9

He's an extremely obvious doper

They'd be best served going the Bonilla route and paying him 1 million per year for the rest of his life

Coming into 2021, Miggy has 487 homers and 2866 hits. He hopes to reach 500 homers and 3000 hits this year. If he makes those milestones, will he be a Hall of Famer?

he was a hall of famer 4 years ago

so yeah, he will still be a hall of famer with 500 hrs and 3000 hits

Cant believe a Kirby Puckett fan asked this question

9th in the AL in hitting. Doesn't have the power but dude can just flat out hit.

He's always been a quality hitter, but for him to still be raking at his age is extremely impressive.

Many other players would be phoning it in, but he seems to have genuine, personal pride and wants to be recognized as one of the best hitters of his generation.

raking is a stretch. he's a DH with a .347 OBP (which is good for 2022, but not spectacular) and he's slugging a lowly .372 despite that .308 BA, so it's a rather empty average.

Highest BABIP of all qualified hitters. It doesn't make much sense, could say it defies logic given his lack of foot speed and power but enjoyable to see all the same.

It's enough to have his OPS+ in a very respectable spot at 39

I mean, I appreciate the effort he puts for to still get some base hits (and for only 30 mil.) but he's on pace to play 140 games and score 36 runs. That seems a little empty.

No one is accusing him of being anything close to what he was but the fact he's hitting over 300 with the shitty protection (until Riley greene came up) is a testament to how good he is and was. The dude has straight humbled himself and committed to finishing his career with his head up instead of slumping out the door.

I mean we are talking all time worst offensive numbers through like mid June for Detroit. They're finally kicking it up though.

Since this post he has hit below .100. I honestly thought he may have been able to leg out the final season but it's clear injuries and time have piled on.

Time to hang em up bud. And immediately become the hitting coach.

Aren't you on the hook for another big paycheck for him next year? Why would he stop playing unless you cut him? And if you do, he could go be a hitting coach wherever he wants.

He wants to coach for Detroit. That's why.

And he's talked about retiring openly. He's pretty fucked up physically. He's gone back and forth.

credit to you for even bumping this. I forgot this thread existed.

Glad he was able to crack 500 home runs and 3000 hits. He was an incredible hitter. His decline definitely brings his career numbers down, but from 2003-16 he hit .321/.399/.562 (155 OPS+).

One of the best pure hitters ever. His poor defense shoves him down the WAR rankings but he's a top 25ish all time hitter.

Would like to see him go out with some dignity. I understand 32 mil is 32 mil. Maybe they can have some kind of behind the scenes save face where they cut him and only the stat nerds (me) know he is still getting his dough. Honestly he earned it anyway.

Yeah, I’d like to see them come to an agreement where he can get his money and stay in uniform. But not need to be on the roster.

He stated repeatedly he’d like to stay on and coach. When he started saying it I assumed 2024 and beyond.

I just don’t want to see him coach bases. Cuz he talks too much and guys will get picked off.
