Is anybody still clamoring for this guy in the 3rd or the 4th? I don't think I'd touch him in this draft now. I think he's turned himself into a "gay rights advocate" instead of a football star. Everybody else was working on their job interview known as the combine while he was busy rehearsing answers to silly questions and doing interviews about his sexuality.

i think me and u stated before that we would take him in the 5th or 6th round because that would be a nice value pick. as of now id still take him in those rounds. im guessing he is completely off your board now. i didnt see any of his interviews but i did see his combine results, guy sucked ass today. he needs to workout hard for his pro day.

He is off my board at this point. He came out for whatever reason and has become a celebrity. I can't remember the last time a late round player got more love in the media than the best player in the draft, Jadeveon Clowney.

I see guys treating the NFL Combine like a job interview and it is. I see them treating it like a business, a career, because it is. They bust their butts knowing what is at stake and outperform all projections. Then I see a guy like Sam put up lousy numbers that show me he didn't work hard enough at his craft...major red flag to me.

i have trouble taking a 3-4th round grade guy completely off my board. 7th round is when i target the question mark guys.

You can not judge a guy from a good combine or bad combine.

You cannot look only at the combine, I agree with that. Was he ever really a 3rd or 4th round guy though?

I am looking beyond the combine.

First, he doesn't really fit our system at all.

Second, he made himself a spectacle. He brought something into the public spotlight that nobody really cares about. He made himself the most publicized person in this draft. That's fine if you perform.

Third, I look at the combine to accompany his newly found fame. His combine results are horrible. These guys know exactly what to train for and many are excelling. This guy was horrible.

40 time: 4.91...4th from bottom among LB
Bench: 17...4th from bottom among LB (4.5" lower than every LB)
vertical: 25.5 (4.5" lower than every LB)
broad: 114 (5 from the bottom)
3 cone: 7.8...lowest for LB

These numbers are bad even if you compare him to other DL.

I agree. Overrated based on his personal life. The media circus to follow him isn't worth his capabilities. These results are terrible. Stay away.

Kind of off topic but the media coverage of him is annoying as hell...I got a text from espn about his 40 time and I'm only signed up for Phills and skins score updates.

his numbers were bad, bad enough to drop his stock. He was a 3rd-5th. Now he's a 5-6th.
Strictly DE in a 4-3, with 3-4 pass rushing potential. He fits with another team. I'm a little concerned with two statements, that he came out on his own terms, and the thanking of his "fans". Perhaps he could have picked a better time to announce his choices. Could be perceived as a diva move, and that could not be the case

Yep - that is ESPN for ya. I also felt that they went way over-the-top with their coverage of Collins when he was signed by the Nets. The guy is a scrub at best. The current media is horrible.

NO one was clamoring for him. But fact is, before he came out and before the combine he was rated as a 3-5th round prospect. I figured if he had a solid Combine he would still be rated some where in the 3rd to 5th round, but would likely slide to the 4th-6th round based on his coming out. Now, after a sub-par combine... im not sure he rates as a 6th rounder. But I would still hedge that some one drafts him in the 5th round. And he wont go undrafted simply for the fact that the NFL cant afford to have that kind of egg on their faces to where it will be surmised he went undrafted because of his life style. And I honestly think he will make a roster.. not because its politically correct. But because he is probably going to have a bigger chip on his shoulder and work harder than any rookie has in a long time.

anyone being fair will see his numbers stack up as a 5-6th rounder regardless of gay or not

i think football players , and teams want to win and it wont matter what he does in his bed

this has been overblown just as jason collins has

it will blow over soon enough. teo was talked about just as much and now we never hear about him. (i think he did solid last year when he was healthy but i dont really know). sure being the first openly gay nfl player is bigger than teo's situation but by week 3 im sure nobody will talk about him.

once again, holy shit he had the worst combine ever. DEs/rush OLBs are supposed to be good athletes! im changing my vote to i would not take him before the 7th round.

You were all over him before the combine. You said we were insane if we didn't take him in the 3rd.

You know what would be a nightmare? The Redskins will have to change their team name then they'll draft Michael Sam. How about the Washington Cherokees or Apaches. I like Redskins but.

So the Skins are going to change their name within the next two months? The Redskins may change their name eventually (if so - whatever - move on). However - that most likely won't be for a very, very long time. Just because some hacks from CNN or ESPN make this a big deal or some guy with 2% Native American blood cries about this doesn't mean that the name will change anytime soon.
