DA: Eagles DE Michael Bennett pushed 66-year-old paraplegic woman

HOUSTON (WPVI) --
The Philadelphia Eagles' newly acquired defensive end, Michael Bennett, has been indicted by a grand jury in Texas for allegedly pushing a 66-year-old paraplegic woman following Super Bowl LI in February 2017.

According to the Harris County district attorney's office, Bennett - who was a member of the Seattle Seahawks at the time - was at the game to watch his brother, a player for the New England Patriots.

After the Patriots won, investigators say Bennett was trying to get onto the field to celebrate. However, the DA said, Bennett was told by the security team - including the paraplegic 66-year-old woman - he had to use a different entrance.

That's when Bennett pushed through the security members, including the 66-year-old, authorities said.

Bennett was indicted on a felony charge of injury to the elderly.

It carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

The DA said a warrant has been issued for Bennett's arrest, and prosecutors were working with his counsel regarding his surrender.

The Eagles announced the team had acquired Bennett just last week.

Both of them could die and the world would be a better place.

I as white guy don't feel comfortable when black guys beat up old paraplegics.

Maybe I need to check my privilege

Does this mean we can go back to crossing the street when we see a black guy coming?

The ones that still think Bennett is a star passrusher maybe? Or that his cap hit isn't a significant thing?

Joking aside, I really hope we don't see any Bennett apologists in this thread. He has no right to any benefit of the doubt outside of the law at this point.

I am not going to defend it, because it sounds like a jackass move all the way. But I can tell you right now he will never be convicted on knowingly and intentionally trying to injure this woman, which is what the felony charge is.

He bowled her over to get on the field to celebrate with his brother even though they told him not to. That doesn't mean he actually meant to injure her. In other words, legal issue here is not reckless disregard, but willful intent.

Ugh.

A jail sentence would void his contract, right?

First off, fuck this guy.

Second, If you blocked out the name next to pushed a woman in a wheel chair and asked who did it, Bennett would be among the first 2 or 3 names that you would pick.

Third, if I'm Belichick, I am not letting him anywhere near the field after that bullshit his sore loser ass pulled at the end of Superbowl 49. I'm hiring private security to taser his ass until he shits himself if he gets near any of my players on that field, including his brother.
