To do what he did, you'd have to be a complete football idiot or betting against the spread.

That was worse than running the wrong way. For Nebraska, if you're gonna use scholarships on idiots, those idiots need to be athletic All-Americans. If you're Santos and you're gonna bet against the spread, don't be so obvious.

That's what I said at first too, but when they just went to commercial without really mentioning it, I started second guessing myself and thinking (hoping) that he knew something I didn't

My best guess, Santos didn't know it was a punt. They weren't in a punt formation, he turned and ran with a WR, the next thing he knows is a football bouncing in front of him, also the WR gives him a shove into the ball, yes he could have avoided contact with the ball, but people should have been yelling at him that it was a punt.
