I did something yesterday that really made me feel like I had some value in this life.

I busted my ass filling food bags at a local Food Pantry. I filled hundreds of plastic bags with vegetables and fruit and fruit squeezers.

My hands hurt, but I couldn't stop. The giveaway started at 9:00 AM and a spotter came back at 10:00 and told the Minister that runs the operation that the line down Route 1 was two miles long.

My sister in law, was working in the Meat area, weighed the bags of various meat to make sure that each one had at least five pounds of meat.

Everything is donated during the week and when I just couldn't keep going, everyone I worked with said thank you as I walked to the car. I was wiped out at 11:30 AM. I was embarrassed that I had only been able to last 3-1/2 hours. The line of cars coming in was still at least a half mile long as we left the area. 750 Vehicles had driven through when I was done.

I don't attend the church that sponsors this event very Saturday and Sunday, but I sure do respect it. I don't know how many people who drove through really don't need a free handout, but I do know that most of the people that came, need what they got to help feed themselves and a family that would not have had any extra.

When I wasn't doing produce, I was pushing a large container full of frozen turkeys out to the distribution line.

I honestly felt like Santa Claus.

I hope every one of you has a Merry Christmas.

Gestures are nice this time of year. Not that I would know! My ole lady always tries to get me to help feed the homeless, I don't fall for that. I have to feed them, then go home and cook. No Thanks

I don't totally get that either. It just doesn't seem that hard to provide for yourself, yet so many end up homeless. I know, there's a scourge of issues that are tough to overcome... but still, so many people needing meals or other handouts?

My Christmas good? A coworker had a tough year - wife with breast cancer (treatable fortunately) and another family member diagnosed with Parkinson's. He and I talk about healthy living, though I'm better at it. I'm sending him a kit for easy to make popcorn with my favorite ingredients and a microwave popping bowl (easiest popcorn method ever). The kit (separate items I'm sending together) include the popper, good popcorn kernels, nutritional yeast and avocado oil. The yeast has a cheesy, savory flavor and is great on popcorn.

80 percent of homeless are psychotic. If you want to help, be sure to do through a good organization. Many people have been assaulted, robbed, or otherwise harmed.

Walmart yesterday afternoon was a madhouse. I had to go and pick up stuff for tomorrow's dinner.

There were thieves in the parking lot checking out cars and "helping" us old folks with packing up their cars.

I called the cops and in two minutes there were four cruisers rolling around. Suddenly all of Santa's Helpers were gone.

It would have been more fun to whack a few kneecaps with a tire iron, but I have to be nice at Christmas.

Back at you BK, And I second this!!

Merry Christmas!!

I made some seafood chowder, (shrimp and langostino lobster) and some chocolate chip cookies (milk, semi sweet, semi sweet minis, dark chocolate chips and hot cocoa shavings in the dough!) and I am bringing some to the WTP for the night operator.

I hope she's not diabetic or allergic to shell fish...

Mostly what I do. I use coconut oil, have you tried it? How does it compare to the avocado oil?

I use coconut oil for a lot of things but not here because it's not liquid at room temperature. I only use avocado oil so the yeast (and salt) stick to the popcorn. Just two tablespoons for a bowl made from a quarter cup of kernels.

What other healthy "not that far out of the box" concoctions do you have up your sleeve?

For a simple lunch I mix hummus and sauerkraut (and recently upped the ante with kalamata olives). It may sound odd but I was inspired by the taste combination of hummus and pickles from middle eastern wraps. As a bonus, I make my own sauerkraut.

Why don’t you order online? Porch pirates need to eat too!

I'm both. Can't eat any seafood...like someone has cord around my throat and just doesn't stop tightening it. Have to take an EPI pen everywhere just in case someone decides to enhance a dish with oyster sauce or something with fish oil.

A pretty simple high protein lunch I do often, a can of tuna and a hard boiled egg mixed up with canola oil mayo. Hellman's Canola Oil mayo doesn't have soy bean oil.Put that on lettuce for a high protein/low carb lunch. you can flavor it however you want.

Turns out she's none of the above!! She loves all seafood, loves all chowders and loves both cookies and all things chocolate!!

So I did a good deed and now have a new tradition!!
