Football is just like anything else, maximum effort will take you farther than god given talent.
But the talent puts you on third base and its a whole heck of a lot easier to get home from there

Bull. If you take people, one in the 90 percentile of talent and the 60 percentile of effort, and one in the 60 percentile of talent and the 90 percentile of effort, the talented one will absolutely destroy the hard worker.

And if this were true Ryan Leaf>Peyton Manning.

At absolute worst, they were equally talented.

Work ethic separates those with similar talent, and bad enough work ethic can derail a career, but the equivalent talent to leaf's work ethic? You've never heard of the guy because he got laughed off his pop Warner team.

Hodge is proof the NFL should continue to work to limit concussions

Anyone remember Hoge's Reality QB Board last offseason? Ranking Flacco #1? And not even having Peyton or Brees as options? :L

Umm no, one guy was stronger, faster, had a much stronger arm and more accurate...how was that actually equal. Peyton Manning had a work ethic, Ryan Leaf did not...you fail sir.

Ryan Leaf's Las Vegas interviews to Indy were made public and the fact he was partying in Vegas the night before the combine spoke louder than his demolishing Manning in their respective pro days.

Let's accept your premise that leaf was more talented. Peyton was a 95/100 talent and 100/100 work ethic. Leaf was 100/100 talent and 5/100 work ethic.

The guy with talent in the ball park of leaf's work ethic fails a middle school gym class because he can't run a lap.

Yes, Manning was very close to being talented as Leaf which is what you have been arguing against with your talent trumps all so your entire argument is bunk. Richard Sherman was an average corner at best in his final season at Stanford, but his intangibles, work ethic and drive to become the best turned him into arguably the best corner in football.

I said both are important, but talent is far more important. Sherman has all the physical tools as well.

Elite talent and average work ethic absolutely destroys average talent and elite work ethic. It's not close.

But there are very reports and examples that Clowney doesn't even have average work ethic. At least "average" for what the NFL will require.

Not disagreeing with he has physical tools but not like he is superiorly gifted than most guys in the NFL, he used to get worked in the Pac12 and was nothing more than a mediocre corner at best. Looking at his combine numbers as well there was nothing special or to say this guy can be a star. His drive and his coaching is what has turned him into an all pro, not his superior "talent"

I have had reservations about Clowney and this is why. He will be an oft-injured bust, mark my words. "I'm going to try, really try." I'm gonna try to try." -JC

Season should prove interesting. Can't see how Clowney won't be helped greatly by the presence of JJ. His match ups should be easier just based on that.

Personally like Mack better as a prospect but who knows really...:noidea:

Gotta see them play at the NFL level, before real judgement can take place.

Watt will be of great help to Clowney as long as he (Clowney) stays healthy. I don't doubt Clowney's talent, it's his motivation and demeanor that concern me.
