i just had it on in the background but im pretty sure that not what he was saying. He was basing it on draft position and trusting his motor and football iq. I dont agree, im just saying what it sounded like to me.

Whatever Hodge say's think just the opposite. Why in the name of Sweet Baby Jesus he is allowed to analyze anything escapes me.

He basically said he would draft Sam before he draft Clowney

He made salient points though. What everyone here is banking on is Clowney's athleticism......but Sam is a smarter player, who's been more dependable.

He's saying he'd rather have the smarter player who's always in the right position and plays hard every down than the athletic freak that shows up every once in awhile with a big play.

This is basically the knock on Clowney, and WHY you should never take a year off. He now has to PROVE he has the same motor and desire as a guy like Sam, that's CLEARLY inferior to him on a talent level.

Yes, let's take everything said by the guy with multiple, career-ending concussions as gospel.

What I hate about this is that this statement will likely make Hodge more famous than he has ever been in his whole life just due to how the media works right now

This is ESPiN, what do you expect? And Hodge is a delusional asshat.

What people that like to fluff Sam never do, is discuss why he didn't produce prior to this season. Or that 9 of his 11.5 sacks came in 3 games. And 2 of those game were against terrible teams(Ark ST & Fla). He only had 2.5 sacks over the other 11 games.

Look, I get it, they need something fill the space between now & the draft. But making idiotic statement founded in lunacy just makes look desperate for viewers.

True, much like his Tebow comments a few years ago.

I dont agree with Hodge. In fact it's a joke. But I do see the flags with Clowney. If I'm drafting a guy in the top 5 I dont just want a great athlete, I want a hard core football player that's going to be relentless and have huge expectations of himself and his team.

Elite talent is not a common characteristic of great football players. Relentlessness and great work ethics are.

Sure it is. More talent correlates extremely strongly to more success.

Everyone in the league is talented. So much so that talent can only separate you from the crowd so much. What all great players have in common is great intangibles.

Talent difference is every bit as important as intangibles. You need both to be elite.

You do need both. And almost every single player in the NFL has enough talent. But many of them aren't smart enough or dont work hard enough. Just like anything else in life, effort separates you from the pack.

That's simply not true. The vast majority don't have the talent to play at an elite level.
