If Melky was a stock, the SEC would be all over that "random" tweeter right about now.

#3 really hurts. Was all set to compare them to Bonds/Burks/Kent/Aurilia of 2000, or Bonds/Williams/Clark/Thompson of 1993.

Didn't the Giants pick up Daryl Strawberry in 93 also?

Strawberry was in 94. Would've loved to see how that season woulda played out. Sports Illustrated had an article guessing what would've happened, and I think they had the Giants winning the WS with Barry Bonds passing Matt Williams and breaking the homerun record that year.

Montreal had the best record in the NL I think, they got totally screwed. Frank Thomas was heading for a Triple Crown.

I wonder if the Giants knew before they traded for Pence. The twitter rumor broke before the trade right? Might have added an extra incentive to get his bat.

I guess Baggerly can take back his apology.

My first thought was, I bet the Giants knew this about the same time as a) Melky/Giants extension talks break down and b) right before getting Hunter Pence, which probably fueled their desire to get him.

My thoughts too when the suspension was confirmed. Not only would they have needed Pence for this season, but most likely as Melky's replacement for next season (or at the very least insurance). I'm not saying this IS what happened, just that I was thinking the same things as the both ofyou.

Yeah, I remember that after that season, they hung a banner at Olympic Stadium celebrating them as the best team in baseball in 1994. I wonder if it's hanging in Nationals Park. I doubt it.

:eek2:

… Now, if Melky Cabrera wants to apologize to me for lying when I asked him about it, that’s another matter.

Just noticed Bochy benched Scutaro for Theriot. Got to add that to the list......

Yeah, what's up with that? Scutaro is hitting well right now, while Theriot is hitting like crap. Does Scutaro have awful numbers against Strasburg? I can't imagine that he's faced him too many times.

I guess Pagan's chances of being resigned just went up quite a bit.

Surprisingly, I haven't heard one east coast fan saying this is what we get for stuffing the ballot box.

They're still busy eulogizing Johnny Pesky.

From Tim Keown:

And make no mistake: Cabrera shook the dice, blew into his hands and let fly. Had his testosterone enhancement gone undetected, it's possible he could have been in line for a nine-figure free-agent heist in the offseason. (To go along with his All-Star Game MVP award, which now will forever carry a mental asterisk in the minds of baseball people everywhere.) As it stands, it's difficult to imagine a team taking more than a two-year flier on a guy whose legitimacy is questionable at best, tarnished at worst.

Buster Olney:

Melky Cabrera was like a bank robber who did everything right in his plan to steal tens of millions -- right up until the moment his getaway car ran out of gas.
