Sharrif Floyd *
San Francisco 49ers (11-4-1)
COLLEGE: Florida
AGE: 20
HT: 6-3
WT: 303
POS: DT

Analysis: At some point, San Francisco has to assume that the ageless Justin Smith might finally need a breather, and Floyd is the type of versatile defensive lineman who profiles well as a 3-4 defensive end. Florida moved Floyd to the inside during his sophomore season, but he was back at defensive end this season, and just kept getting better. Like Smith, he's a powerful player who can push the pocket with power and will free up other pass-rushers, while making tackles for loss on his own.

If I were a GM, first round pics would almost always be DE, DT, or OL with a rare CB or FS thrown in. Never a QB unless it's Peyton Manning or Andrew Luck.

Kiper has Cincy taking Montee Ball. If that happens I will fly to Cincy and slap Marv myself.

It's based off of record which is why that Falcons and Patriots are higher.

Don't worry though next week it will be 31 one and a couple weeks after that it will be 32. :D

Floyd is one of the guys I want at 30 and it fits a need. I'd be quite happy if this was the pick.

positional value does influence your draft board, so depends how strict you meant it? IMO we shouldn't be THAT strict, cause you need to add the most talent you can, even if not the ideal need.

yep, if you project a Peyton or Luck for YOUR scheme (other teams have slightly different criteria), you draft him given the opportunity. especially if he slips DOWN for whatever reasons.

I'd be okay with floyd. Not totally happy but I'd be okay with it. In that scenario though I'd go with Tavon Austin in the first, and draft my DE in the 2nd or 3rd round. It may backfire though because the player I'd be targeting in the 2nd round (Hunt) was selected in the first. Bennie Logan is another option but honestly I don't think he'll last that long in the 2nd round. Gholtston is not relentless enough for me to trust him to play that position in our scheme.

Oxymoron.

didn't want to use "Aaron Rodgers", but guess you need an example?

yeah, i know it is LOW odds of happening, but who knows? also, am saying as projected by the 49ers, for the 49ers. someone who fits Harbaugh more than other teams.

point being don't forget QB, not go into the draft targetting a QB.

Then that is not Manning or Luck. A prospect who's projected to be in the same level as Luck (many folks said he was the best prospect to come out since Elway) won't last till the 9ers pick. You said Manning/Luck, those type of prospect would not SLIP...!

The whole thing is a terrible mock. It's pointless doing mocks this early, anyways.
